Doesnt look like your guy will be SS, but a stud 3B (Note, we cant see his projections). I tend to shy away from trading stud prospects, especially since if you get an all star in return you will not have him after his current contract because 9 times out of 10 he will go FA. The prospect you have for a very long time.

Only way I deal a guy like this is if I'm close to winning it all and I think the guys I am getting in return will put me over the top.

The best advice for newbs is to err on the side of not making the trade. I learned this from experience, making some bad deals my first year. Wait until you feel you truly understand ratings before making big deals. What may seem like a good deal could truly be a good deal but 9 times out of 10 it won't be. If you feel you understand the ratings system then it's more of a question of does the deal fit your plan. Are you contending or rebuilding? Are the players you get back going to make an impact? How do the players you get back fit into your budget next year, or the year after? Can you resign them or are they rentals? If you can answer these questions and the answers fit then make the deal, otherwise keep
your prospect.

and remember, if the guy trying to trade for your guy has more experience than you, there is probably a reason he is willing to make the deal.

His projections are

(Offense) 100-58-78-70-78-63

(Defense) 89 (overall) then 76-79-75-77

Depending on the RF and setup guys and the World you are in, you might not have to worry about it. My gut says its a deal people may veto, especially since you are a new owner.

Sick 3B, one of the hardest positions to fill.

But it all depends on your current team, are you contending or are you rebuilding?

If this is your first season, I wouldn't make a single trade.

I'd have to see the other players to really judge the deal, but unless you already have a young stud 3B in the majors I'd be inclined to hang onto that guy. And even then, you could always move the lesser defender to RF or something.

This guy will be an excellent 3B, one of the few best in your world, starting in season 17. By next season he'll be an above average ML starter at 3B.

If you're calling the RF "not bad" then this is almost certainly a really bad deal. Post the other players to be sure, but it sounds on the surface like you don't want to do this.

I agree it doesn't sound like a good deal. Keep in mind that if your in a playoff chase your prospect could be a major league right fielder right now.

hang on to him until you've played at least one season. unless the players your getting will put you over the top for a shot at a ring this year-- which probably isn't the case-- there's no need to move on it now.

Keep this guy. Even if he doesn't reach his full projections, he'll still be a really damn good 3B/RF

Any problem skipping AA with this guy and moving him to AAA? I need a AAA 3B.

none at all, with this being his 3rd pro year he needs to be in the majors after this next season.

I think this is the key comment. If you have a good/contending team and you need another corner OF bat, this guy can be that guy. No need to trade him to get one. And by a year or 2 down the road, his D will have developed into a terriffic 3B and he'll still be yours for cheap.

My big advice for any new player is this: Be extremely careful about any deal proposed to you by another owner. There are players in this game who look, to a new guy, like they can play, but they really can't (examples- high OVR SP with control in the 20's, or a high OVR corner OF with good D/Dur etc but splits in the 40's). Any new owner is likely to receive offers including players like this, and you can't afford to get snookered on one of these guys. If, on the other hand, you take the time to identify players you like, based on both a detailed look at their ratings and their historical stats, you are much more likely to make good trades and less likely to get screwed over by going out and getting these guys you identified than by sorting through incoming offers, which will include a bunch of stiffs.

Another good way for a new owner to get a decent deal is to auction off the players they want to sell. For instance, announce their availability in the World Chat, place them on the trade block, send Trade Chat to several owners who have announced in WC that they need players, etc. You will certainly get a better deal if you can get 2 or more owners bidding on the same player. This will create a market, and that market will let you know (roughly) what your player is worth in your world. It's very hard to screw the new guy when you're bidding against another experienced owner for a good player.

Finally, although I would never say never, the most common formula for a new owner getting screwed in a trade is "new guy gets 3 role-players and/or solid players who are way way WAY overpaid, and other owner gets a star or stud prospect." Try to avoid getting 3 in a 3-for-1 until you feel a lot more comfortable with the ratings. If you can get the "1" in a 3-for-1, however, I would highly advise that.
