Because I transfered the money and THEN they changed the logic so that you could offer up to $20mil SALARY plus whatever for bonus. I transfered it over to sign draft picks and IFAs because at the time I made the transfer, you could only offer $327k per season salary and an infinite bonus. After the transfer was already made, the rules changed.
The bug was that they only intended for you to be able to offer $5mil x 3 years. But instead, the other owner was allowed to offer $9mil x 5 years. That was more money than I had in prospect bonus.
The rules changed in mid season. I came prepared to offer big prospect bonus because that was how the game always had worked, but the change in mid season allowed another owner to trump my strategy just on lucky timing. If that IFA had showed up 2 weeks earlier or 5 days later, I would have signed him easily.
