BPI Knight Plan Topic

Here's the plan

I'm going to do the first OTR SOS ranking for Knight D1. The regular season ends on January 14th when at that time, I'll be monitoring a team or two, to see if/make sure that team improvement/practice "stops". When it does, I will compile the OTRs for all Knight D1 teams using this/these link(s) http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=12769 with the TIDs ranging from 12769 to 13092.

WHAT I WOULD NEED FROM YOU

I basically need help from someone in the Knight world (Fd343? schrode? others?) What I would need is for someone AT THE END OF THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS to view the final WIS poll top 25 and others receiving votes (about 40 or so teams total) and copy and paste each team's schedule AS THEY ARE all into the one big spreadsheet (let me know which team schedule is which somehow) and email a file that I can view with excel viewer to and I'll compile it up. The copy and paste wouldn't take that long I don't think, however I do understand its tidious data entry work of sorts but I would be greatly appreciative of whoever helps out so I can show you all my mad scientist rankings and see how/if they pan out.

If you have any questions or would like to help out, please post. I thank any and all in advance for their participation.

I am able to copy paste the schedule into openoffice.org, go and get their excel type. I will probably be able to help out. I want to do D2 results though so I will primarily focus on that since I know nothing of D1. I Probably will focus on D2 before the NT though so I should have time when D1 comes around. I am still looking for a way to auto-pull the information needed.

I haven't worked with SQL/Databases for about a year so trying to get my feet under me again.

Very nice, thanks. I could try to do both D1 and D2 top 25/40, I would have to compile more OTRs, but its not impossible and schrode even if you're not in there, you could submit your team as well to see how far back or what have you they'd place amongst the big boys.

As far as computers go, I know enough to do what I do and to make it work for me...I'm not even close to being a computer wiz or genius, just a guy that can work my ideas into the means that I know.

I'm very particular about how I list teams (shocking I know) so if you don't see your team exactly how its listed in your office or whatever, keep looking because it'll be there...for instance Minnesota-Duluth I'd go MN-Duluth...NJIT - New Jersey Tech, etc.

happy to help but sounds like schroed is better at this than me - schroed, post here if there is a chunk you dont do - my skills would limit me to keystroking into a spreadsheet unless someone tells me just how to do it better (with childlike specificity)

You need to get the player ratings prior to the National Title game as that is when players leave early and transfer.

Oh I wasnt planning on getting the player ratings. I was getting the Team Schedule with the Scores and W/L and everything you find just on the schedule page.

I will have to take a look.

FDY you just need to enter the teams name and what not first in a row on excel. Then just high light and copy the whole schedule right into a cell in excel and it should separate it all into different columns and rows.

Guys, I'm gathering all of the team ratings so you'll need to do none of that...I just need copy and paste help with the results, so please disregard zhawks post. I'm rolling with the overalls as is and we're going to see what's up.

happy to help as well, but I also am a keystroke into the template guy, unless someone can teach me how to pull stuff en masse into a spreadsheet - but happy to help as best I can

zhawks was trying to be helpful here, and he brought up a really good point that you may have ignored (probably because it was zhawks that said it).

If you wait until after the championship game to get the ratings, any players that declare early for the draft or transfer will have already been removed from the rosters right after the game.

You will then be missing very important players from those teams (particularly the underclassmen that declare early). You need to pull the rosters before the championship game.
