kind of amazing, i haven't noticed any real surprises. a well-crafted collection of tandems and trios so far.

Scud, this being my first Funk52, I would have to say I'm surprised at how soon some of the players have gone compared to the last iteration of the ODL (and the one before it, since I researched so heavily for the recent ODL draft). . .what gives? Is it the bigger cap? Smarter owners?
1/19/2010 11:50 AM
excellent observation, emp! yeah, the bigger cap influences how the owners draft. you'll notice the rosters will be filled with more specialists rather than min. eaters. %'s will be much higher, and in my opinion, friggin'-as$ tough to keep the usages down. guys like walton, and troy murphy, camby, ben wallace, boerwinkle, unseld, rodman go a little higher because of the roles they play and low touches.

the top shelp players: wilt, moses, mchale, robinson, jordan etc, all have superb efg%'s. that's why usually, a garnett, hakeem, russell, lucas, oscar are drafted toward the end of the first round... yeah, they bring a ton to the table, but their stats are a bit inflated due to the sheer volume of minutes they play, or, low 50's in efg%'s.

a league like this, barkley is worth more than a garnett, though garnett costs more. i could be wrong, but that's how i see it. btw, your bird is a perfect example. he's one of the all time greats, but falls a bit in the first round in a 52 mil league, and, like everyone else, u drafted a specialist in the 2nd round (willis). gl the rest of the way.

Subject: Usages

I don't think it will be hard to keep usages down once you use your head and not your eyes.. means get blinded by stats or names. Maybe it's just me... And I am DUMB..
1/19/2010 12:39 PM
well, kat... in a league of sharks like this one, i'd say most everyone is pretty smart and understands the importance of low usage... the trick is, getting some of them before the next guy does.

Thanks for the reply, scud. I had to grad Willis because the boards are already getting hard to come by. . .I've never used him OR Bird. Could lead to my first championship, or, more likely, could end my recent above .500 streak.

O_O

I like scud's team so far - lean and mean - rare that you see a team lock up enough boards without even having drafted a C yet but he wont have to work hard at it (the advantage of Rodman)

monkee's squad is a little scary, like the Wilt-Wes pairing

ncih has a great perimeter squad but he's well on his way to building a bagel

not sure if katernberg is a lunatic or genius

I like that. Great line.

Im looking at monkee with Wilt/Wes, omegax has Hakeem/Lucas - there's a Russell/Haywood pairing, a Shaq/Walton pairing, a Garnett/Gilmore pairing

some nice front lines
1/19/2010 1:58 PM
lol... i had the same impression of glen's team, chester... and monkee once coined that phrase on one of my teams... though he called mine a donut. i had three pf's and no "true" center. i thought he was out of his mind. turned out, i got dominated.

when u draft wilt, he's gonna need some help boarding so he can be the dominant player he is... monkee wasted no time. low usage-highboard-dishman-unseld. i agree, a bit scary.

kareem at 13? a windfall. nice. i was debating between him and rodman.
1/19/2010 1:58 PM
I'm prepared to get eaten alive by those lines. . .3rd round is so important; do you snag one of the few true perimeter gunners, or do what you can to shore up your frontcourt, knowing that you'll just have dregs by the time your round 4 rolls around?

I wish I could just pick already. . .17 is a crappy spot to draft.

I'm doing something completely different from my normal draft strategy and teams. We'll see if I'm outsmarting myself or if I should stick with my old strategy.

PS - I can't believe TMAC fell as far as he did. Even in a $52 million cap, he's ridiculous. Scud, as usual, has an amazing start.

Monkee, too.

I know ihtgk kinda got screwed, but I think he'll like the Barkley/Fat pairing.

I love chester's kareem/chauncey pairing.

I like glen and tricky's trios thus far.

My pupils wonder too....
1/19/2010 3:17 PM
yeah, ash, i responded to your draft forum comment... thanks for the kudos. however, i'll trade ya ben wallace for t-mac, only because i think your "new" strategy might wreak havoc and would like to break it up if i could. in only two guys, u have a lot of everything... the 3rd guy, some jewel you'll no doubt find, will only make matters worse. keeping a close eye on your 3rd rounder.

i agree with u about neil's team... after looking at who he wanted, but settling for fat, i think it worked out better for him. fat's gonna make barkley even better. not sure i could say the same for pippen, pierce and the others.

and hell yes, tricky's team is already lethal and balanced. i like those kinds of squads where one player does what the other does not.
