This is the first time I'm seeing this- after getting eliminated in the High A LCS, I demoted 3 fringey guys to Low A and the brought them back up to High A for the ratings bump...instead they all took demotion penalties.

Is this new or was it here all along?

That's what you get for manipulating the system.

As I understand it, demotion hits can happen at anytime EXCEPT when you demote minor league roster expansion call-ups once the regular season ends.

And the more important question:

I have Ted Lincoln who only saw 4 ratings bumps in the regular season and is due for a nice big 5th one that will have to be earned by promoting him somewhere. So will he get a demotion penalty if I

A) Demote him after I get eliminated?
B) Demote and promote in between the LCS and WS?

I suppose so.

It's a shame, because I really wanted that last bump for Lincoln. I guess it's too risky cause he'll take a rather serious penalty for a demotion with his 32 patience.

A) It's a possibility. He wasn't a roster expansion call-up.

B) See above

I'd go ahead and do it if I were you. If you can't play the game, what's the point in playing?

You can also use DL moves to demote w/out penalty, if you can swing it.

I asked MikeT about this very thing the other day in the Ask MikeT23 thread, and he warned me against the demotions. So I didn't do it.

There is no such thing as an increase in ratings due to a promotion.

The "bump" is simply a snapshot of the improvement/decline enjoyed/suffered by a particular player since the last "snapshot" of his ratings.

kermit is not in MikeT's world.

Question though, do vR and vL among other ratings bump up between end of season and the start of next season? Or do you have to wait until after ST?

I'm not 100% certain, because it's not something I track and there is no "end of season" ratings line so it might be tough to tell.

The "skill" ratings increases enjoyed between the last event line in a season and the end of the season may not show up until the second ST event line (with the first reflecting changes in physical ratings) but like I said, I'm not certain.

Assuming deanod doesn't demote the ML guy he linked above, he'd probably make a decent test for this so here are what would seem to be his final event line ratings for the season -
