Formula for a good OPS hitter Topic

I'm debating signing an FA midseason to platoon/fill-in off the bench at heavy-fielding positions. Whoever I sign will probably bat 7th or 8th in the NL. The core of my question, I think, goes to whether LHP/RHP splits are more important, or the Contact rating. Both have solid batting-eye, but are slow (though good baserunners.)

#1 Benny Sewell

and

#2 Felipe Valenzuela

i would go with sewell, velenzuela's low contact is gonna kill him

I agree about Sewell, but in over 800 BL at bats Valenzuela has a .734 OPS, so "kill" is probably a bit strong.

Valenzuela has a forearm injury also

I wondered about the injury...looking at the transaction report it looked like it happened last year. I thought maybe since it didn't give a number of injury days, perhaps he had recovered?

Sewell. Wouldn't think twice, unless there's a third choice to consider.

If Valenzuela wasn't too expensive. He wouldn't be a bad option to throw on the DL and see how he recovers from the injury. He can play most positions and has a bat you wouldn't mind coming in as a pinch hitter.

The best formula for a high OPS is a high OBP + a high SLG, in my opinion. Other may differ.

The answer is obvious... 42.

They're both retired, aren't they?

You can always get to come out of retirement with the right offer
how can you even make an offer?

Very carefully, I think pete was joking because this thread is a year old and the guys have since retired

PeteC knows, if you treat the ladies w/ respect, they're always willing to come out of retirement.
