How many of you like using your freshman in high distrobution? Even though they have very low IQ's to start out with.

I definitely try to limit how much PT my freshman get. If they do have to play its going to be as a backup and they will get between 1-5 distro depending on talent and incoming IQ.

If I could I would never play anybody with less than B- IQ, so to answer your question I think it's a bad idea to give true freshman high distro.

None of my freshman are great scorers and I dont give them high distro, but I still play the big men. i find that big men can step in and be very solid rebounders right away.

I rarely use them as my main option, or even top 3. I do use them to be key role players though who can be a starter and maybe 5th in points, or even one of my top options off the bench. I am one of the rare who usually always has at least 1 FR who starts. I don't like my 5 best players all on the floor at once, so to balance it out sometimes I'll have a FR or 2 start. On King's my best player has never started 1 game and averages over 10 PPG if I recall correctly.

Use the froshes sparely or try to redshirt if not needed right away.

jagg these are all D2 or D3 responses (except for kmason) and to answer your question it is definitely ok for freshmen to play big minutes and/or start. However unless they are shooting great I would not give them that much distro. Last year the top recruit in the nation (a big man) averaged a whopping 4 ppg for me while starting every game.

So basically, its ok to start them but they probably won't shoot well.

My Illinois team won the title when the kids that are now Seniors were freshmen, along with 1 other kid that early last year.

They played a lot of minutes and my distro that year was pretty much even.

I have won a d3 title with 6 freshmen as well. There is absolutely a place for freshmen to play and I almost always try and get my freshmen good playing time to help their development.

i started a freshman backcourt in another world(d2)..had no choice bcause i lost 5 seniors....high distros led to 18ppg and conf leading scorer but got pummeled that year but now there soph's and iq's have risen a little..should be a .500 season..for those who won with them good job

Ya I took my team to the NT last year and was ranked until the NT with my Queens team. 6 Freshman and 3 of them were starting, I do agree though with people saying that the Inside men like PF/C are able to adapt faster it seems.

No offense, but that was mostly due to beating up on a really weak conference. I definitely wouldn't recommend starting freshmen and/or giving them significant distro unless you don't have a choice.

It can be a little better at high DI like Z is talking about, because you can get some kids whose ratings are really top notch. But at an FAU like jagged is at or DII/DIII, it's more difficult to overcome. Not impossible, but definitely difficult.

Yup dalt, we were exactly where our RPI came out right at the top 40 schools. I would never have expected anything more especially with a B prestige school last year.

Gotta say though the distro for my team last year really changed from the start to the end of the season. As my freshman back producing better I gave them more distro from game to game.

CAUTION: This only worked for me cause I had 70 mins total into IQ Off/Def every game their freshman year. This allowed my players to have B- ratings by the time conference play came around, not to mention I had recruited for my Off/Def as well as the best players I could get.

I thought that after 25 or so minutes there wasn't any advantage for additional minutes?

THere is a diminishing advantage after 25, not 'no advantage' - in other words, the minutes at 25+ aren't worth as much as 1 - 25, but they are still worth something.
