What’s the difference between DII and DI? Topic

I am thinking about moving up next season and wanted to know what I was getting into.

I

read some tracking threads :-). Seriously, the difference is enormous.

What is a "tracking" thread?

Off the top of my head:

WAY more battles. No pulldowns. Better competition. Baseline prestige. Conf NT/PT money is a bigger factor.

In D2 if you don't spend anything in the first 12 hours that is not too weird. if you do that in D1 you are going to be TOAST.

adding things that haven't been said:

1) # of schols available is an enormous factor in recruiting because of the amount per schol

2) early entries

3) the talent level is more even within and across the top 6-8 conferences so coaching/gameplanning matters more

Yes, there are pulldowns at D1.

Joe,

by far the biggest difference is in recruiting:

1) prestige is way more important

2) lots more money spent on each player. When i was in d2 and d3 i'd read threads where people said they did 40 HVs and 20 CVs, and think that was insane. Now I do that many all the time, think nothing of it.

3) lots of opportunities at the lower end of prestige to wait on recruits dropped by bigger schools.

4) as reinsel said, you can rarely afford to miss the beginning evening of recruiting (though oddly, you might be more easily able to do so at the lower levels).

there are many more things, these just pop to mind right away.

I guess that is true....z/furry. Its just that pulldowns are not a standard part of the recruiting process like they are at D2/D3

no 4 or 5 star recruits will sign with you if you are not above a B- prestige, in my experience anyway...you can't battle bcs schools and expect to win you're a non bcs...way more money in D1 and be prepared to spend it...do not miss the first cycle in recruiting...you must purchase the fss and be prepared to search 100's of recruits for potential

Can somebody explain why the first cycle is so important? I sort of understand why but I'm also not positive why you'd be completely disadvantaged by doing so.

I thought about applying for a D1 job but given that I've missed out on the first day (or more) of recruiting several times the past couple of years I'm wondering if it would be foolish to consider D1.

And no snide comments on my coaching (or lack thereof).

Granted I am not massively experienced at dI. . but I think that might apply more at elite schools that are going after four and five star players than at entry level dI schools, at least in my recruiting experience so far. .
