Last night in Tark a 16 seed beat a 1. This forum is not meant to question that game because in reality it was a very talented 16 seed which shoulda been seeded higher and a 1 seed (who despite an amazing season which was deserving of a 1), talent wise shoulda been seeded lower.

My question is simply has this ever happened in HD? Ive played over 100 seasons now and have twice lost as a 2 to a 15, most recently last season :(

But has anyone ever seen a 16 beat a 1? To the coaches credit who lost he seemed to handle it quite well. I probably would have blown a gasket no matter how it could be rationalized.

it used to happen quite often. that was in the first 10-12 seasons of the original worlds. i used to kick and scream and cry and ask, why why why? and then one day, poof! it seemed like everything was magically fixed and the NT pretty much mirrorred real life in terms of upsets.

one of the best college games I ever saw was when Cuse lost to Richmond, the first time a 15 beat a 2.......but thats real life

Can you post a link to the box score?

mmt I have seen it happen before. It actually happened to lm2 in season 12 of Phelan.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that there is a lot more parity in HD then real life and it makes it more possible.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it happening, i don't see it happening so much that it is clearly out of whack.

FT difference was huge.

About the parity comment, for example in Tark my team was a 16 seed with a 77 RPI. In real life 16 seeds never have that good of an RPI, they are almost always sub 200 teams who were seeded 4th or lower in their conference and made a run. In my game the #1 seed was the #5 RPI team, if the #77 RPI team beats the #5 it's an upset but it isn't inconceivable. I'm suprised 16s don't beat 1s more often in HD.

I agree with what you are saying but I don't think using RPI to judge a teams overall strength or weakness is a good way to do it but I understand the point you are making.

Get your cameras ready, I'm taking up the WIS side of things here...

This isn't really that big of a surprise. First of all, HD has more parity than real life, the gap between great teams and mediocre teams isn't as egregious as it is in real life. A lot of schools have a more equal chance of getting good players in HD as opposed to RL. Secondly, Air Force had lost 6 games prior, including a 10 point loss at 15-13 San Diego State (715 OTR, 98 RPI). The loss against Kent State was an 11 pointer on a neutral court (740 OTR, 82 RPI), thus it isn't really out of the question or out of the realm of reasonable possibility.

There are virtually no gimmes in the HD tournament, nor should there be. Its a different animal than RL and the talent disparity is much less in HD than RL...it would virtually be like that for any CBB game.

A 6-loss one seed? Interesting.
