Beta Test Update Topic

Seble has announced that we will start simming games tomorrow. He will likely batch 5 or 10 games for us to review for bugs and then will slow it down to allow us to actually gameplan.

Major things we will be looking at include:

Fouls -- the number of fouls on average should be in the same ballpark but certain mismatches (player and team) may generate more fouls than before

Rate of Improvement -- player rate of improvement has been slowed down and this coupled with the revised recruit generation should allow for more coach controlled player growth

Fatigue -- there will be a completely new fatigue system

Play by Play -- there will be a completely new PBP in place but it will still contain all essentials from the old one including doubleteam references

The goal is to release the new engine in time for March Madness. Fox will do heavy promoting and a lot of new coaches are expected to join at that time.

We have not seen anything yet so we can't tell you anymore than what I posted.

March madness is in only 6 weeks or so. that seems pretty optimistic to me if they're only now starting to test it.

Will press still be magic?

Thanks for the update.

I'll believe that when I see it...FOX promoting WIS...how much can it really help when they don't carry the tournament anyhow? I also expect people to be dejected when they see they're 5+ seasons away from getting a D1 team...just looking at it from a "new customer" perspective.

That is your point of view. When I first started I thought I'd be able to choose whichever college I wanted. But when I realized I had to work up to that, I was excited to work my way up to the top! And now I know how addicting of a game HD is.

I understand your idea Zhawks (and it's a good one), but there is no way WIS will offer a 5 pack for only $20. A new player can get their first season for $5 and then 5 more for $60. I think the only way WIS would consider that is a new player 5 pack for $45-$55.

Fox and WIS seems too greedy to lower that anymore.

My idea is only based on what is best for HD and solid business / marketing idea. It is not based on what I think WIS/Fox might do. I have spoke to seble about this, I hate to make this analogy, but HD has a lot in common with cigarettes, get the customers hooked at whatever cost (and seriously there is 0 added cost for each new customer for WIS, everything is basically fixed cost) and then continue to milk their addiction.

To paraphrase an old Dr Pepper ad --

I'm a smoker,

he's a smoker,

she's a smoker,

wouldn't you like to be a smoker too

I know the games don't start simming until tomorrow, but from your contact with Seble is the the new engine a complete overhaul or more of a tuneup?
2/10/2010 7:04 PM
The whole idea was to re-write it into C# (correct?) which seble is more familiar with and will allow him to make changes easier.

There are some new things but i do not believe that it is a complete overhaul in terms of how the engine works.

When I first started, I wanted to get to Division 1 quickly. My opinion changed very quickly when I arrived at Division 2 and realized how much fun it is! I love my team here at Lane!

I think that 5-pack idea is a great one zhawks. I think $20 would be a reasonable purchase for a casual sports enthusiast and soon to be HD user as well.
