Before we go any farther, CONTRARIAN23 has informed me of a possible situation that everyone should be aware of: Since we're able to raid each other's rosters during this draft (except for the keepers, of course), there stands a chance that someone with their last pick can, in a sense, go in and grab someone else's starting catcher - probably leaving them with hardly any recourse.

Three ways we can go here:

(1) Before the draft begins, get with the other owners in your draft and ask them if, after the fourth round, that they make each other's teams off-limits for the last round;
(2) Before the draft begins, make your Catcher (or some other position that would be affected) one of your keepers; or
(3) Just leave things the way they are and say "Let the cards fall where they may!"

Totally up to you guys in each draft - I don't care either way. Just something we thought you should be aware of...

Juice raised a good point. The way the draft is structured, a team picking in the last round can presumably raid another teams roster for, say, their only catcher. Since there would be no more draft picks, that team is SOL. Juice proposed that a reasonable solution is to make the 4th round of the draft the last round where a team can raid another player's team, so that player can make a draft selection to cover the hole in his/her roster. Thoughts?

I would be ok with either 1 or 3. 2 doesn't make sense to me as it seems that just gives you another keeper. I'll try to start the draft tonight after I've had some time to do some analysis.

I vote for 1. I'd rather not spend the time researching and drafting only to have my team decimated when my shortstop is taken.
2/17/2010 3:23 PM
That's fine with me. I had thought that the screw your neighbor strategy was potentially part of the league strategy but I'm not offended if it isn't.

I will start things off with Pedro Martinez - Expos
2/17/2010 5:41 PM
I vote for #1 as well, especially since I'm pretty barren at catcher.

I'll take Roger Clemens - Blue Jays. Also, I'll vote for option one. Another option would be protecting an additional player if you lose one in the draft. Similar to what teams do when stocking expansion franchises.

I'll solve my catcher problem with Mike Piazza - Dodgers.
2/17/2010 7:01 PM
Randy Johnson -- 99 Diamondbacks
2/17/2010 7:58 PM
Larry Walker--Colorado Rockies

And I support option number one.

I'm in favor of option 1.

Kevin Brown - Dodgers

I totally missed the non-snake style draft. That's a pleasant surprise.

The Braves will fill a glaring need at 2B with Roberto Alomar - Indians

So we are agreed, no pirating each other's teams after round 4?
