Think the title is ORIGINAL CURSE (something like that). Very good picture of both baseball and life in America in 1918. This is the writer's (of course I can't remember his name) first book. Both well researched and easy to read.

Bootone -- Don't know of any good reads recently, but I read baseball books almost obsessively, and these are some of my favorites in no particular order. I would recommend any of the books on this list as being worth your time --

If you read Cramer's DiMag bio, you should read Morris Engleberg's too. They tell the same basic story, but they're told very differently. After reading both, you can draw your own conclusions as to what is true and what isn't.

Currently reading... Tris Speaker: The Rough and Tumble Times of a Baseball Legend by Timothy Gay. Really good stuff.

And, I'm sure that everyone on WIS is well aware of this, but just in case anyone hasn't read The Glory of Their Times by Lawrence Ritter, they should should immediately put it on the top of their list. Seriously.
