Another FreeHD ? Does WIS not learn from past failures?

hopefully it will just be during the NCAA tournament which wouldn't affect too much

Wow. Thankfully in D1 this isn't so much of an issue. Sucks for all of those guys that were ready to jump back in with a D2/D3 dynasty.

I think dilemmas are on the way back.

Yeah, doesn't matter. This was WIS' chance to hit one out of the park, instead they just struck out.

I agree, the reduced rate for a 5 pack would of really been nice

I think the FreeHD is a good idea. I started playing because of it (different ID). I am sure WIS knows whether or not it makes good business sense, as they are able to track who joined via FreeHD and stayed beyond their free season.

I don't think its bad. Worst case is some not new coaches will use it and fill up div III again. This will make it look more fuller, so the few coaches who do sign up during march madness are playing against coaches with names, and not sim ai. Even if these coaches don't do anything I don't see it as a horrible thing.

I think it's a great idea, as long as it's only temporary.

You need something to get people into the game, why not a free season. The only reason I tried HD in the first place was FREEHD.

As long as it's a 1-2 month promotion, what's the down side?

I started because of it, too. Why the big fuss?

Trentonjoe - people think that shady coaches will utlize it to scout for their other programs (saving them important recruiting dollars). My thought is that there are always going to be people that cheat the system anyway they can. There are people out there that utilize their D2 team to scout their D1 team's state (when they are in the same world) and vice versa) I know I have 2 teams in Rupp (Tenn and W Chester) and I go to great lengths to avoid even the hint of impropriety. But I know that other people don't... and likely cheating.

Perhaps they can find another mechanism to keep the game clean. (buy at least 1 season before being able to use FSS? (just like scheduling used to be done)). I am not entirely sure what that mechanism is, but I do believe FreeHD is a smart marketing tool for WIS to get more bodies in the game.

Me as well because at least you're running through a team of the users recruits and WIS could make $30 or $40 on 5 seasons (maybe 4 for $20?) as opposed to making $0 on 1 season, with no guarantee that the user will purchase further seasons. I mean really, if you flop in your first time at recruiting and only "sign" walk-ons...are you really going to want to pay to play again? With 1 free season, there's no commitment to the game...its just like a "let's try this BS" campaign.

I would like to give credit where credit is due here though because I do believe this was a zhawks idea (among others) and I just wanted to openly recognize that its a fantastic idea.

Without free HD I would not have become a paying customer later on.
Great move by WIS to generate some interest in the game.
