i am in physical pain from the cheering between the kansas loss and the kentucky win. i might have broken my finger. but it is totally worth it. this has to be the best day ive had in a long, long time. time to pack my bags for the carrier dome!

What's the over/under on seasons before Cal moves on to a better job, leaving UK to deal with scandal. 3? Enjoy it while you can.
3/20/2010 11:01 PM
there is 0% chance of that. better job? laughable!

i mean he might leave but it would not be to a better job. i just don't believe there is a better job. maybe i am crazy and/or biased. but if you look at kentucky, what else do they have? they have no professional team in the state, its all UK basketball. a successful UK coach could easily go on to be governor, and is instantly the most loved man in the world, within the state of kentucky. plus, we have the highest attendance per game of any basketball team, including the nba.

Just wondering, why were you guys hoping that Kansas would lose early? Are you looking for an easy road to the title? Wouldn't it mean more to beat the overall #1 in the final game? Guess I don't get it.
3/20/2010 11:21 PM
lol, i would rather beat down somebody less talented in the title game than risk losing to kansas, for sure. it doesn't need to be the toughest run of all time. a championship would be more than enough :)

in this game, sometimes i look forward to meeting the clear #2 team for the title game. but i never have went, aww, i won the title but i really wish it was somebody harder than the 10th best team in the country!

nba job would be an upgrade. unc, duke, and kansas are comparable jobs, but there's no better college job than kentucky.
3/20/2010 11:53 PM
i disagree on the nba part. and not just for kentucky, but for the other top college jobs, too.

the way i feel is this. in nba, the stars are the players, not the coaches. its not even close, is it?

in college, the star players have a shelf life of 4 years max, and usually less. they are rarely great for more than a couple. the "kings" of college basketball are the top coaches. john wall is very possibly the best player in the country, and will be remembered by uk fans forever. but next year, he will be gone, and cal will still be here. if cal stays for say 10 years before he retires, there is no question IMO that cal will be a bigger hero to the state of kentucky than any of the players he coached. kentucky players are legends here. but can they compare to the legend of adolph rupp? i just don't think its even close.

Very impressive win... I believe the top jobs are all similar enough that leaving for another really wouldn't be an upgrade and I definitely do not think the NBA is an upgrade at all.

I think UCLA is a better job. Plus how can you compete with the California weather?

any job that isn't in imminent threat of NCAA sanctions (aka the majority of jobs out there if Cal hasn't been there yet) will be the "better" job...

i dont even think its close. wooden was a great coach, and they had the best 12 years of all time. but considering what ucla got away with, and with what tark the shark got slammed for, its almost criminal. plus, 12 years dont make a program great. the 30-40 before and the 30-40 after, its not even close. all ucla can claim in the most ncaa championships. but before the ncaa championship was the championship of basketball, there were others. honestly kentucky probably has at least as many as ucla's 11 in terms of just championships and unc won a couple of those early ones too. i would put uk and unc ahead of ucla, hands down, no question about it. i think ucla, kansas, indiana, duke (i guess) would fill out the second line. really i don't even remotely consider anyone but unc competition for the greatest program of all time. when unc had 3 titles not long ago, i dont think anybody was close. but they also have a staggering head to head record against us, and have a winning head to head against all the other elite programs. and that has to count for something.

All time wins puts it UK, KU, UNC. As does NC wins minus UCLA. If you are going to take the Wooden years from UCLA, then we can't really have Duke in the same discussion either, not yet anyway.
