Mountainqueers you're next. The battle of the "My meth is better then yours" states.

Here in Kentucky we do love our Cousins, though. Demarcus that is.

I think it's cute when Kentucky fans pretend probation and loss of scholarships isn't just around the corner.

vacated wins is not the same as a vacation?

And which team is your favorite Mike? Are you saying that you would not trade rosters with us in a heartbeat?

I saw UK in the New Orleans games, and they looked absolutely awesome - flying up and down the court, athletcism and skills.....

Maybe I would, but you can keep Coach Cal and have fun with that.

When I saw Cal's career record on the screen last night, I honestly wondered if the NCAA requires CBS to deduct the vacated UMass and Memphis years from that total. It always struck me as odd that such teams and their results get officially "removed" years later, yet they are still counted by all other unofficial standards, by both media and the watching populace. This year's UK squad is no doubt at risk of having their results dealt with in this same way, but fans of the school will no doubt include any championship from this year in their bragging rights internet discussions. If Kentucky somehow ultimately turns out to be clean, so be it, but if they are ultimately not, it would be refreshing that the NCAA would require UK officials (or those from any other future cheating school) to not only vacate results, but to make an official public announcement (as part of an agreement to continue the sport within the NCAA umbrella) to the world, "we cheated, were caught, and this team and its results will be stricken entirely from any and all school publications and physical monuments." I know, this is crazy dream, but sometimes just imagining a world without hypocrisy helps me.

anyone have a clear handle on how many regular and postseason wins have been vacated for Coach Cal?
3/26/2010 1:43 PM
I actually don't, mamxet. Admittedly, I'm assuming both his 2008 and 1996 seasons were vacated. I'm fairly certain re: 2008, but not really re: 1996. I don't think there are other years, but I'm not sure of that either. If my assumption is correct, does Cal have a Final Four that is NOT vacated? I can't think of one, but maybe I'm just overlooking the obvious.

Near as I can tell, its 74...so far.
The 08 Memphis team had 38 wins vacated, the 96 UMass team 36. That's 2 Final Fours vacated as well.

Good luck winning (and then 2 years from now losing) the title KU.

ETA: taking away the vacated seasons, Cal's top NCAA appearances are 3 Elite 8s and 2 Sweet 16s.

I know Cornell had a lot to do with it, but if Kentucky plays Saturday like they did Thursday night, they won't even be hoisting a Final Four banner, let alone a National Championship banner.

Word in Memphis is that they are about to sue Calipari for several of his bonuses that he earned that were based on wins as well as a Final 4 appearance. I think the amount was around $360,000 or so.

When Kentucky plays West Virgina, who will be guarding the moonshine distilleries this Saturday?

Why shouldnt they? What has actually changed? Did those games not happen? Did they go back and change all our brackets from those years for the vacated wins so we can figure out who really won? Its not like in the Olympics when you find out someone really cheated because they used PED so they get their medals stripped. The NCAA is like the mafia, they use these kids like the cheap labor in Asia as they line their pockets with money from ticket sales, merchandise and television contracts; while making bogus rules to hold down these guys. Every school has these problems its just a matter of who gets caught.

You think the average fan really cares that Camby took money from an agent or that Rose's brother traveled with the team? They don't which is why no one could care less about the NCAA vacating wins. Umass knows they went to the FF as does Memphis. What hurts them is the money they lose (which is rarely returned).
