Home visits -- diminishing returns? Topic

So I've been at this awhile, but a friend who's also a vet coach recently told me admin has said himself that there are diminishing returns to home visits in recruiting, i.e., the 25th HV is worth only, say, 60% of the first. Whereas, campus visits diminish at a much slower rate. Now, I was shocked, since I've never heard anything like this -- I thought the 100th HV was worth the same as the first. But I also trust my friend, so -- is this true? Are there diminishing returns? He said there was an old thread about this -- anybody have it? Thanks!

Idk if I believe this or not.

I had a battle in Phelan with Syracuse (I am at UCONN) where I thought I was losing the entire time, and I was, but in the end I pulled the recruit a Canadian PF so only HV are allowed no CV.

I pumped 35K work of home visits into him. If I was losing from the begining until the end wouldnt my efforts not have mattered so much if Cuse was also putting effort in.

Maybe its different because we both had to put HV in..

I've seen support calls posted (for that's worth) say that there are NO diminishing returns on home or campus visits.

Nope, sorry Jeff, your friend gave you bad info.

Here's where more recruiting transparency would clear things up.

Recruiting should absolutely, positively not be totally transparent. Because of the fact that it requires you to figure out some things for yourself, it is really the only truly strategic part of the game at any advanced level. To lose that would be awful.

If you want total transparency that allows everyone to very simply connect the dots and know exactly what to do, you should play video games instead.

I agree that recruiting shouldn't be totally transparent, but when they make a slight change in the logic, it should be at least mentioned.

um, its pretty transparent....

when you call a guy 200 times he gets annoyed and tells you so... so there is a diminishing return on phone calls

when you make 100 HVs you get the SHHHBANG letter and the recruit loves you even more.... there is no diminishing return on HVs

i would say too transparent. as dalt said, you want "paint by number" go play xbox. half the fun is figuring this game out.

Thanks, guys -- I suspected there were no diminishing returns, but wanted to make sure I'm not crazy...

I'll diminish your returns with stingy Rebel defense!

So let's spoon feed even more of the game to you. How about this, no recruiting at all, we'll just have a draft with the teams with the highest budget/prestige drafting first. Better yet...don't even SIM the games anymore...teams with highest overall rating wins.

if there are diminishing returns, I have not seen them - but I dont know how to monitor for small effects in such returns

related angle - I have long wondered whether recruiting somehow gives you more credit for balanced contacts - like for a blend of the different methods - or for consistent contacts. For no good reason at all, I tend at least to call my recruits every cycle even if I dont think I need to do anything (I am talking DI where the $10 is not of much significance.) Why? I cant say that I know that it matters, but if I were designing recruiting I would make consistency of contact a factor......I mean, can you believe that Gary Williams called our house every week just to check on how Bubba was doing?

I think it'd be nice/appropriate to see a recruiting summary at the end of recruiting...see who spent what on whom, and how. I don't understand why people wouldn't want to see something like this, especially when I've known a few guys that felt like they've been screwed in recruiting at one time or another.

I'd like to see how some really good coaches do their settings - but if I did, I wonder whether the game would be as much fun

Colonels, I have found that most respectable coaches are willing to share a recruiting summary after-the-fact. Of course they do not always have to be telling the truth, but after awhile looking at things, you can tell which those are.
