How did I do in recruiting? Topic

How did I do in recruiting my first year at a D- D1 school?

I have a lot of money over so I could of gotten into a fight over a recruit but its alright that I didn't so I can save up the money for down the road.

Recruited all these players on 4 scholarships worth of $ and cut 5 players.

Kendall, Carl, Nicholas are all Juniors to help make my classes 6 and 6.

I think that's a really good start. You have good balance and should win enough games in the next 2 years to get your prestige up to start recruiting better studs.

My one concern would be that it looks like your current system is M2M, you may think about changing from that to a different defense (like zone). Some of the DE ratings are low for M2M. But with 9 new players, it is pretty easy to change defense now.

I found in my few D prestige teams that ending up with $ is pretty common because you always get last dibs to talk to guys. You should have good money to spend on scouting services :).

You seam to be more bullish on WE and potentials than I was as I was trying to get guys in that could play immediately and focused more on the cores. Butler was a good find at your prestige imo.

Butler and Stroizer were the two guys I targeted that were "out of my range" and I had to battle for but I dumped money into them quickly and mid-major schools seemed to ago away.

It helps to be out in Arizona and New Mexico though lol.

Butler I ended up giving 10k and a Car to though to fend off George Washington (SIMAI) and Cal Santa Barbra I think it was, also this is the first time I ever used boosters so I am going to see what happens after recruiting is over with.

Also I am going to a Flex Offense since I like the speeder type of players and inside men that can rebound. Zone Defense is what I am switching to as well since M2M is not something I want to attempt with a low tier D1 team.

It's a good start, but watch your scheduling next year. The good d1 schools will slaughter your d, and it matters more in d1 than in the lower levels.

I think you needed to do a better job of recruiting to your system, you have some players that could turn into solid players but I don't see the guys meshing as a team very well. Your guys aren't M2M players, their D is too low, if you were planning on playing a zone you really needed to find that 5 that can sit in the center and block everyone, none of your bigs is a big time shot blocker/defender. And overall they aren't all fast enough for a press.

Just my two cents and maybe you can take something from it for the future, I didn't look through your conference or anything like that to see how you match up against them, you def could win a handful of games with those guys, I just think you need to think a little more team and defensive set a bit more when recruiting a whole class.

I completely understand that. I have recruited recently with teams with D-, I understand recruiting at that level can be difficult, which is all the more reason you need to make sure your team optimizes your defensive system.

Yup, I don't know if I could have gotten much better players could I? Basically most of these players will only be playing for 2 years hopefully and then I will have a higher Prestige when all my juniors leave. I will be scheduling all SIMAI schools most likely at home in order to drive up my win total and get up to a D+ or something.

When I was recruiting with my team I focused on this list in my head mostly.

Inside:
1. ATH
2. REB
3. BLK
4. LP and SPD

Outside
1. SPD
2. ATH
3. BH/PA/PE a combination of 2 or all 3 depending if they were PG or SG in my mind

In the end I felt like DEF would be a waste of recruitment as I would lose ATH/SPD in the trade off and I would feel much better with 90 SPD and 70 ATH and 30 DEF as opposed to 65 SPD and 50 ATH and 65 DEF

Also Holbrook is not a inside stopper with Blocking and Rebounding? Or what about Walters?

I guess I just want to get your idea of what an inside stopper is. Like I said I just want some feedback. I am not expecting much success right away my first go around in D1 ball.

We are talking about the same Holbrook right? The 37 Def?
4/2/2010 12:57 AM
Let me take a step back first and get what sets you are planning on running with these guys.

Ya, from my understand DEF the rating is a multiplier and helps you but when playing a 2-3 Zone with Stroizer and Walters will he not be successful?

Hol 37
Stro 67 now but high improvement so in another year 80ish
Walt 72 now but high improvement so in another year 84ish

That averages out to 67 DEF for each right? Don't you average it in zone?

Possible Depth Chart tentative:

PG: Fishback (Jr on current team)
SG: Butler (Fr)
SF: Walters (Fr)
PF: Holbrook (Fr)
C: Stroizer (Fr)

PG2: Robertson (FR)
SG2: Tuma (Jr on current team)
SF2: Marable (Jr) / Walker (Jr)
PF2: Buckley (Fr) / Ferro (Jr)
C2: Buckley (Fr) / Ferro (Jr)

Possible to Shift Robertson or Tuma to SF1 in order to run a 3-2 even.
