Help me make a decision Topic

So I have a dilemna. I'm coming off a surprisingly great season with Hampton in Tark D1 where I went 30-4 and made it to the Final 4, along with it came a prestige bump to a B. My conference if very weak with only 4 human coaches so I'm looking to move into an elite conference. However there is only 1 opening in the BCS conferences and that's Nebraska who is coming off back to back sim AI seasons this last one they went 1-26 and lose 6 seniors and only have a couple of good players and has a C prestige. I'll be losing 3 players off of my Hampton team all starters including my leading scorer and the 3rd leading scorer in D1, however I do return some quality players and should make the NT again and would have a chance to win a game or 2.

With all that said is it better to stay with Hampton for 1 more season and hope there are some more openings next season or should I apply for the Nebraska job and hope to get it and begin the rebuild? By the way the Big 12 is probably the 7th best conference in Tark behind the other BCS conferences and the Mountain West. So it's not like I'm getting the benefit of a ton of recruiting money from one of the best conferences making a rebuild easier.

First, see if any Big 6 coaches at better-quality openings simply don't renew. However, if they don't, I would stay at Hampton (and not because I coached there for a while under dahoss88!). You've got 8 guys coming back, and the team should be very good (especially in a mid-major conference).

you should stay until you get a school you want

Hasn't the renewal deadline past? I thought that happens right after the national title game along with firings?

Mtngoats, the thing is there is no school "I want" per se, I just want to be in a BCS conference due to the conferences being full and the ability to get an A+ prestige.

No its at 12

I'd wait and see if something better opens next season. With a good returning team in a weak conference, you should get an NT bid to hold your prestige.

Baseline prestige for Nebraska is a B-. Blech. That's no better than any of the A-10 schools (and worse than some of them). As someone who has coached at Oklahoma St., and had reasonable success, the Big 12 is very tough for a lower prestige school. I wouldn't want the Nebraska job. If it was me, I'd wait for a better opening.

Wait until you get the school you really want. My first big 6 school was Texas Tech and I agonized about leaving or staying...my W. illinois team was ranked as high as 5 in the country and in my 6 seasons there I had 3 guys drafted. I had the itch so bad I took TT knowing that in that world the big 12 was the best conference and it had a sim ai the year before. The next season 3 schools that I would have loved to take over opened up. That makes it suck even more. Stick it out

I would stay at Hampton unless a better situation opened up. I moved from Ore. St, to Colorado about 4 seasons ago. Colorado had 8 openings and 3 players that were marginal at best. If I knew now, what I know then, I would have stayed.

Thanks guys, I'll wait to see if anybody doesn't renew if there aren't any openings I like I'll hang in at Hampton for another season.

i think what you should do depends on your situation. if you are confident you will make the NT next year, i'd wait. if not, you might not be able to get a better opening until after your final 4 drops off, and then you won't have gotten to take advantage of it...
1.) I'd rate both A&M and Colorado as better jobs than Nebraska. Colorado is in a unique geographic position for recruiting, as they are the only Big 6 school within hundreds of miles. This can lead to a pretty nice recruiting situation. I almost applied for the Colorado job once, because of that. Texas A&M has slightly better baseline prestige than Nebraska (B), and is in Texas, where there are always a ton of decent recruits. Nebraska is just in the middle of nowhere and is pretty much boxed in on all sides by other Big 6 schools.

2.) No offense to kmason, but you're gillispie, one of the greatest HD coaches of all time! You could win anywhere!

Washington is open, which is in much better shape then Nebraska.

Obviously I'm better than gillispie considering I just beat him twice in 1 season, lol, j/k. No offense taken. A few jobs opened up with people failing to renew so now Nebraska isn't the only place. Again thanks for the input guys.

I'd look to take a job at a Big 6 school...I had the same situation a few seasons at UMBC. Coming off a Final Four run, I had the same decision...Stay with a very good team the next season or try for big 6 schools...The teams I wanted just weren't available and the teams that were I saw in worse condition than my own. I decides to stay at UMBC. Needless to say, that team went 14 - 13, no post season and my prestige has been dropping since.

No guarantees in the HD world that mid-majors will be highly competitive each year.
