How hard would it be to add a search feature in recruiting where you could sort/search via potential?

Explain please. First you'd have to have FSS on recruits, then you'd want what exactly about potential searchable? You want to sort by high potential or some such?

Just switch from general to ratings. It is color coded and fairly easy to skim down and see each player. I can go through 300+ players in 30 seconds.

yeah i know how to search via ratings...but more along as doomey said...

first youd purchase FSS.

im not sure how it would work but ideally youd be able to search so that you could say locate a PG with say >50 HP, SPD, DEF, BH, PA

the ability to sort by high potential would be nice

Well, right now if you have FSS there are search options that open to you for FSS'ed areas: Favorite school, close to home, far from home. one would presume it would work like that?

I coudl see "SHow me all of the guards in my scouted states who have a high potential in speed' as an interesting querry.

reminds me of the days way back when ... recruits were not sortable. (maybe they were sortable by one stat at a time or something?) and the old school fellas screamed every time someone suggested they should be sortable. "you'll ruin the game! you'll dumb it down so much that any noob will be able to sompete immediately!" ( i could be wrong, but im thinking vandydandy was one of the screamers)

I dont reall exactly how it worked, but i will tell you that the first trick to having a good recruiting season was just finding good players. it was like some kind of word search puzzle or a dan brown novel. i liked it. but, say la vee, sometimes you gotta roll with the changes.

anyone else remember the old days?

those are still these days, HD is so dumbed down its unbelievable. and people want more spoon fed to them still...

The only thing I want in regard to searches is the ability to save my search settings for different positions at least within one complete recruiting period if doing it over multiple seasons would be problematic. That would simply take some of the tedium out of the recruiting process.

one man's "tedium" is another man's "challenge"

but i think vandyD and I realize that the past and future trend in HD is to make sure that the geniuses have hardly any advantage at all over the imbeciles. We dont want to hurt anyone's feelings. Actually, probably a good trend for me.

But sometimes it seems the whole world wants to adopt a Pee Wee soccer mentality: "Everyone wins! dont keep score and give everyone a ribbon at the end of the day!"

not sure why im in such a cynical mood. Probly Vandy's fault.

I'm actually not terribly unhappy with HD and am even cautiously optimistic that the new engine will move Hd in a good direction in the long run.

Plus, I just scored the biggest upset in the history of HD last night when my lowly orangedudes squaeaked out a win over OR's uberdynastic UCONNers

I remember those good old days. Wasn't that much longer after I started that they went with the "upgraded" search features, and I have to admit, I hated it. I liked sorting through all the players to find that "diamond in the rough", but that has really been taken away from us. I thought that the coaches who put in the time to actually research the recruits had an advantage, and justifiably so. Alas, it appears those days are gone, never to return.......

i got vandy in allen into the NT for the first time in like 20 seasons last night, probably my second most amazing HD feat, staying coach of a major conference HD team without getting them into the tourney for that long without getting canned

i have absolutely no idea what you are basing that on, but the change you were talking about, sort options, does not appear to be biased with intelligence either way.

i agree with your sentiment on giving everybody a ribbon, and trophies for 10th place. but i fail to see how it applies to HD.

VD, I was with you in saying that adding a sort feature for recruits would be bad and dumb down the game. I can now see that I was wrong.

The real skill isn't hunting and pecking and clicking on 400 different guys. The skill is taking the data and making decisions with it. Having a sort function has simply cut down on mindless busy work, it hasn't removed any actual skill from the equation.
5/3/2010 9:10 PM
I was going to say. Improved user defined sort and search functions I like because they remove barriers to participation that have nothing to do with skill, such as 'how much free time do you have/are you willing to put into the game"
