Newb recruiting questions Topic

I've read the QandA, and it helps a little... But I'm still kinda lost in this recruiting thing. Recruiment just opened.
So what do I do, target a few guys close to me and hit them with a few phone calls and wait for them to get back to me?
How do I know when they're considering me?
Is there a way to just look at potential recruits who are considering my team on the search screen?
What sort of ability range in the primaries for each position is reasonable to expect to successfully recruit?
If there's a thread that I missed with these answers, please direct me to it. Or any answers here would be great, thanks!

No one will consider you unless you either hit them with maybe 2 home visits or campus visit (in general), and you have to offer them a scholarship to get them to sign with you.

For D3, 40 is ok in a category, 50 is good. Overall rating is pretty worthless, as it doesn't really matter much.

Recruits process efforts at 2/5/8/11 o'clock eastern us time.

Generally targeting players 0-200 or maybe to 350 miles is best. home visits and campus visits get much more expensive at 360 miles and beyond.

Ok thanks. I just hit 5 or 6 guys with some home and campus
visits... So I should hear back from them soon and I'll
know if I have a shot at em?

How many Schollies do you have to fill??

I am guessing you are in DIII, and with that I would suggest not recruiting anyone over 250 miles away until maybe after signings start and if you have the budget .

Make sure you conserve your budget, and not to get into any battles for recruits. Like stated earlier, overall is pretty worthless, look at the core ratings for each position and recruit kids according to your offense & defensive sets.

Hope this helps alittle

Just remember, in general only use CV on guys who are farther away. as soon as CV are less than 2 HV, it's time to switch to CV to maximize your money/influence.

spend slowly, stay close to home - how close depends in part on where you are - in densely populated areas you can stay real close in DIII when you first start

Yeah, at Brooklyn you should have tons of players within 200 miles.

Don't know how many openings you have, but hitting "5 or 6 guys with home and campus visits" is alot. You might get some CVs rejected by kids who aren't yet considering you. Evals, with a HV, should be an early filter to see who's interested. Then HV and CV them to death.

HV/CV them to death? In div III? That is the worst advice I've heard in a long time. I don't think I've spent over 3 campus visits on any recruit in a long time, and its rare for me to spend over 1 campus visit on each of my signed players each season in div III. Hell, the same is true for div II although its rare to spend even 1 hv or cv there. If you are spending more then 1 campus visit then you are wasting cash, or getting into battles. Neither is a good idea in div III so switch up your plan of attack.

Nipps is correct. Lucky for you they will likely decline the CVs and HVs without evals first. Do an eval on each guy you are looking at. Then go from there. Since this is your first season I would avoid getting into battles if posible.
For future reference when you ask for advice check the adviser's profile and adjust the value of the advice based on their expierience and success.

A newb question, but unrelated:

If you have a guy that's saying you are a backup, but he is still listed as undecided and you have offered him a scholarship, is there any chance?
5/16/2010 11:08 AM
Yes.

If he starts listing others, your chances plummet.

If you become a real option for him, you'll get a note saying his other plans fell through and he wants to "talk" or whatever.

Unless, of course, that's the worst advice someone has heard in a long time.
