Work Ethic of 1, would you? Topic

Ratings are very good, but only has a work ethic of 1.

Would you recruit him? How much of an effect does it play on his development?

There will be no development. Unless he has cores that you can live with for 4 seasons, don't even think about it.

Thanks much

Like Weena said, if as is he can be a part of your team then go for it.

I recruited a 1 WE player who wound up being the backup PF for 4 years, he was good enough to take that 12-15 minutes a game, but never take over as the starter. He wound up being 4th all time on the blk list at my school so I'd say it wasn't a bad decision. Just make sure you arent relying on him to be your star down the road.

Agreed, it's ok if you are happy with him for 4 years as he is (maybe a little worse on stamina each year).

I have one guy who has been a solid 10-14 minute contributer but that's all he can provide. I've been ok withit, but lament what could have been because he had high potentials across a lot of fields. I tried various strategies to get a WE bump and never could (starting, extra minutes, benching, etc.).

curious, how much would the IQ increase over 4 years if you put in say, 20 minutes a year?

I currently have a guy with a WE of 2, and he has improved 7 points overall in two years.

In addition to WE, IQ improvement is also tied to high school gpa and playing time.

It takes a typical guy about 1200 practice minutes (almost two seasons) to go from a F to a B+.

That being said, a single digit WE could possibly take somewhere in the area of an addition 60% of practice time. Maybe 2000 minutes or 3 full seasons to get to that B+.

My guy is currently at an IQ of B- in both offense and defense, practicing each 20 minutes per day.

My 1 WE player graduated at a B for Defense and B- for O that was with 22 minutes of practice for 4 years.

Like I said he won't ever be a star, but my guy came in with about 60 ath 55 spd and 65 reb so he was always good enough to put up backup numbers in D2

i wouldnt touch him at all

the only time i would consider i guy that low is a really really highly ranked d1 player. i don't believe in recruiting guys in hopes they will still be able to put up backup numbers as seniors.

This, 100%.

you should only go in that direction if you are VERY happy with his existing numbers

not only will he not improve, but he is using a slot - thats a slot in which you cant develop a future starter and a slot that you wont get schollie $ for

that doesnt mean that a player with great ratings might not make sense - but you have to think they are great - AND you have to realize this his hoop IQ will also be slow to improve
