Ginobili, the only way the class can be evaluated is if people know the potentials.
5/23/2010 10:57 AM
That would be in a scouting report right?

I dont think i really checked potential on all players.

If you used FSS, the potential would also be there

I just went through and did my post-recruiting notes for my spreadsheet and I saw that you had multiple guys that I had as backup options (Kabzinski and Rupe). Looking at the other guys...

Kleiman: will be good with his ath/reb/lp combo. He will be very solid.

Rippey: Very good ath/spd for a SF. He can rebound and score too. I'd say he was probably your best signing.

Schlossberg: A little slow. A good transfer who can score with the ath/per/bh combo.

Turner: A good JUCO puckup. Not going to be a star, but with so many opens schollies getting a guy who can come in and have that ath/spd combo in a press as a PF is always good. He's not a great rebounder, but he'll be able to score.

Schooler: another good SF, but a few questions marks with the low REB and (can't believe I'm actually starting to consider this) his low DUR. He'll still be a good player. A backup to Rippey.

Hopefully this is kind of what you're looking for. These recruits are a really good base to what looks like it will be a good program in seasons to come. You pulled in some studs, keep it up.

i really doubt your class is any good then. Potential is everything in D2 and D3

I don't think it is. I rarely use FSS. I did his most recent season, but only one of my four signees came from an FSS'd state. I try to find guys with good ratings and I see high potential as a bonus. My classes have been pretty successful recently using this strategy, although with the new recruits coming in I think FSS will be more essential.

very good class overall without knowing FSS. Only signing I see that could be trouble is turner with his 35 rebounding. If he has high potential, he could be good by junior year though.

Thanks for all the input guys, especially tkimble for his input on each player. This is really the first time I actually tried to recruit and knew somewhat what I was looking for in a recruit. Thanks again for the help.

wow for reals. I feel fss is needed for every player not a juco or transfer

tkimble, no offense, but I wouldn't even consider signing a player at DII or DIII without using FSS. At worst it's a recipe for complete disaster, and at best it's an inferior method of recruiting.

if one is going to use evals anyhow to pull guys down, maybe FSS matters less - but then again, that can be a pricey way to decide who to try to pull down.....depending on what size states are in your area
5/23/2010 9:13 PM
Exactly -- that argument doesn't follow logically, because you can FSS an entire state for the price of a couple scouting trips.

I agree with this. I don't think you can ignore Potential, so you either need to:

1. 2 (or more) scouting trips per recruit you are interested in. This can be quite expensive.

2. Pay for FSS in at least your state.

3. Not worry at all about whether your player can grow in certain areas.

I think potential is so important that you need to make sure your guy has enough upside (at least average, if not good potential) in your important areas. You have to spend at least one extra Scouting Trip per recruit to get the info unless you get very lucky. 2 or 3 scouting trips pay for FSS. To me, it makes sense in overall $$$ to pay for FSS.

Not only do you get all the potential info in your division, you also get it for all your possible pull downs.
