Zero. And no, I'm not being a smartass. This is really the answer for me.

It can be veryvery tricky to use 0 Dur pitchers to maximize their value/use, and they generally have to have truly exceptional ratings for the other pitching categories.

So let me get this straight durability is the way a pitcher rebounds to full strength after pitshing?

Generally, to start in a 5 man rotation, a guy needs 20+ durability and 55+ stamina. However, a staff of 20/55 guys would rarely reach the 5th inning and would heavily tax a bullpen.

The ideal starter is 35 durability / 99 stamina. That guy can go every other game in a playoff series because of the off-days. Conversely, the ideal RP has 99 DUR and 35+ STA.

But I've seen a guy with 35 DUR / 9 STA be useful in the playoffs. I've seen a 2 DUR/99 STA starter blank my team - even it did mean he wouldn't be able to pitch again for 2 weeks. I've used a 40/40 RP to rack up nearly 20 wins and 40 saves in a season.

There's lots of different answers to your question, but zbrent's is probably best - anything CAN work. It just requires a trade off in other areas.

Essentially

It's all about context, and you haven't provided any. You need to have a pitching staff that can knock out around 1450 IP over the course of a season. Better pitchers will require less STA/DUR to accomplish this than worse pitchers. Pitcher friendly parks will require less STA/DUR than hitter friendly parks.

I've never used a 0 Dur pitcher, so I have no idea how many innings he'd be good for, but until I saw reason to think otherwise, I would be conservative in my estimates of how many IP's a guy like that could account for.

This info helps alot. Im looking for 3-4 starters to get 150-220 innings each and was hoping for some idea on whom to use

It depends heavily on the stamina of each of the starters you are looking at.

A durability of 30, for example, and good stuff can get you to 220 IP if it is paired with a stamina of perhaps 70 (ballpark).

That exact same durability and stuff and a stamina of 50, however, might only get you to maybe 150 IP (ballpark).

This is approximately what I use in a standard 5-man rotation:

If ST < 65, spot starter at most.

If ST is between 65-70, then DUR >= 23

If ST is between 70-75, then DUR >= 20

If ST > 75, then DUR >=18, will sometimes go down to 17 if the guy has very high stamina.

And at the bottom of the DUR range for each ST range you're only going to get about 150 IP.

You certainly can run guys that are less than these guidelines, but it will require lots of care and feeding and/or an outstanding bullpen, and the consequences of failure can be pretty bad (ie, your whole staff is fatigued at once). In your first season I would play it safe.

Possibly more important is having bullpen pitchers ready every day. Minimum durability for set up and closer would be 50, preferred 75. Durability of at least 25 preferred. Long relief, any combo of durability 30-50 and stamina 40-60 will eat up enough innings early to save your end of game pitchers. A pair of 40dur40sta are quite valuable, and usually overlooked by other managers.

great info thx guys

Just curious, how many innings would you guys expect to get out of a solid SuA/Closer type guy with 31 stamina and 100 durability?
