Official Division One Coaches Thread Topic

Anyone else think this would be a good idea. It would just be a place for coaches to ask advanced questions that they only want advanced answers to and such. I know a lot of people are getting tired of these forums and I think this would be a pretty good solution.

Doesn't need to be sponsored by WIS. Couldn't someone just get a phpbb or ezboard?

Nobody would go to it. I don't see the point. Maybe I don't pay attention as much, but I am not seeing many people going around answering 'advanced' questions in general, and the rare times it happens its usually not from someone who has never been in div I.

Here are a couple of topics to kick this thread off.

What will the impact of these new superFrosh with their 800+ overall ratings be? I think some coaches will plan their strategies to expect 1 season and then EE. Will we see these superFrosh starting games? Will they become AA? Thoughts.

With the apparent death of the Press, what will happen to combo defenses? Are they still usable?

Has anyone seen any impact from the 5/27 announcement of reduced impact from IQ?

Given the increase in fouls in this new engine, will coaches start considering FT% more when recruiting?

Regarding the super frosh, I don't think teams will be able to strategize around them. Perhaps if you could still get quality players at the 30-40 ranks....but folks will need to be very careful about trying to get more than one stud..and one stud just isn't enough

i allways thought that WIS should seperate forums based on D1 d2, d3. would 30 forums make it too messy? any way to make them "subforums"?

i dont know how to actually make it happen, but yes, forums for each division would be useful, i think.

Someone mentioned in an earlier thread that they thought the new engine had cranked up the effect of HCA. Anyone still seeing that?

God forbid. At DI the HCA can make it not worth gameplanning against A+ HCA. I think the value of HCA at DII is just about right and DI should be scaled back, which means that the opposite has probably happened.

Weena ~ good topics.

I have a lot of interest in what happens with these amazing recruits. The top 3-4 people are just good starters on sweet 16 teams from the start. Will A level teams bit 60k or more for them, knowing they are 1 year players or will they not want them?

I think the press will survive, most of the ACC in Allen is just fine running it, but there will be an exodus as the mediocre teams adjust to the new engine. I think combos still work fine.

I have seen that my players are fouling a little less after 5/27 update, and our defense IQs were not good.

I think FT% has suddenly become more valuable. Is 5% of FT% worth 5 points of athleticism? I'd would have say no way, but now, it is harder for me, though I think the athleticism is still more valuable for a big man.

I started this with my DIII bowdoin team, and am glad to reap benefits.

I have always factored FT into my recruiting strategy. It is a partial equalizer for lower DI teams that can not compete from a purely ATH/SPD standpoint.

bscoresby, I can see how it may be a deciding factor in the lower divisions. I do the same thing with my DIII teams. High FT potential is golden.

Before the FT% increase nerf, I was a huge proponent of good FT shooters, consistently designated as many as 20-24 minutes per player to practice time. Now... 8, 10. If they are 'high' potential, maybe up to 16.

i surely HOPE the superfrosh don't become alcoholics...

I think the superfrosh will be starters, especially with the decreased emphasis on IQ. it seems like the new engine is designed that way. a lot of the top d1 players in Iba ratings-wise, who under the old engine would still throw out average statistics, are pumping out 20+ ppg with ease. given that these players will be in shorter supply with the recruits being dialed back, i could definitely see the top players somewhat lighting the world on fire.

this sounds like it is moving towards college football dyaasty where thier is no IQ. So you really dont have to practice the sets.

1. I think those 800 recruits you have to figure you get 1 or 2 years max, they will be starters and most likely good. I dont know about AA

2. I think combo defenses will become MORE useful

3. probably so small it would take awhile to notice

4. As another coach said, FT% is the new press
