Is this a known bug? Topic

I am in the playoffs and set my roster to a 3 man staff
#1 Wendell Ducey http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2676253
#
2 Will Long http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=356005
#
3 Clay Brooks http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2857601

After Ducey pitched game 1 and only went 5 innings I realized that he would be ready in time to pitch game 3, so I moved Long to the 3 spot and Brooks to the 2 spot.  Long pitched game 2, but then it moved my next starter back to Brooks, who is now in the 2 spot.  What gives?  Will it move back to Long for game 4 now or will it set back to Ducey?

That was like reading a math problem from hell.

I know its a little confusing, dont know how to make it easier to read..

rotation before game 1:
Ducey, Long, Brooks
Ducey starts game 1

rotation before game 2:
Ducey, Brooks, Long
Long started game 2

Why is Brooks slated to start game 3 instead of Ducey?

Most likely Ducey was not above his auto rest setting after game 2.  The logic does not account for the off day when checking that.  The next pitcher is decided immediately after the game.  So, if Ducey was at, for example 75(100) after game 2, and his auto rest setting was above 75, he would be skipped as the next starter, even if he would have been at 100 after the off day.

If you want to do what you tried to do, you have to set the auto rest setting below what the pitcher will be at after game 2.  For the playoffs, I usually set the auto rest setting for all my starters as low as possible and manage the rotation myself for this very reason.

That's it.

Yup that is exactly what happenend.. Didnt even think about the auto-rest not accounting for days off.  Thanks for the help.

no, after game 1, Long was handed the ball and was scheduled to start game 2 no matter where he was in the rotation/bullpen.  After game 1 of a postseason series, your rotation acts like the regular season where as the next guy is given the ball immediatly following the game.

Yeah I know why Long was given the ball.. that was my intention.. I was wondering why Brooks was given the ball for game 3, but it was because of my auto-rest settings.. Ducey was skipped for being 75(100).

This scheduler got me again in the same playoffs..

Ducey was injured in game 4 for 3 days, scheduled to be ready for game 7.

Before game 6 my rotation looked like:  Ducey (1 injury day), Brooks, Long
After game 6 it skipped Ducey to give Brooks the start, even though he was no longer injured.

Injury and fatigue recovery are not processed before the ball is handed to the next pitcher.  That's how it works.

How is that not a bug?
7/22/2010 12:51 PM
Because they know about it and have no plans on changing it.   Trust me, I asked.   About 3 years ago.

So it's exactly what I said, a known bug.  Just because they know about it and wont fix it doesnt mean its not a bug.  The guy was able to come in the game in relief so there is no reason why he couldnt have started the game.

I'm assuming WifS does not consider it a bug.  Otherwise, I imagine they'd address it.

In what logic could you think that was not a bug.  Rather then saying, "thats how it is" I would like to hear a logical explination why it is that way.  I imagine the circumstance hasnt come up enough for people to complain enough about it, so they dont fix it because they dont think there is enough people complaining
