This isn't so much a complaint as a desperate cry for help. . . .This player has fouled out in 9 out of 17 games so far, including four in a row.    The team itself seems to be getting worse and worse fouling problems as the season goes on  I've even tried playing extreme high plus defenses on the theory that they induce less fouls than heavier minueses and it makes no difference;  my foul trouble just keeps ratcheting up.  ANyone have any ideas from lineup changes to pace - anything - to at least ameliorate the problem a little bit?  I know its a fast break press, but that is what I inherited with the team;  thats changing next year, but I am trying to figure out this year.

His fould jumped from 1.6 per game last year to 3.7 per game this year in esentially the same minutes.

I blame it on his ridiculous name.

The most common reasons I've seen for increased fouls with the new engine are, in no particular order:  1) Fast tempo; 2) poor stamina;  3) low DEF rating; 4) low ATH rating

From everything I have heard and experienced, playing a plus defense increases  fouls. Basically you are telling your men to play up and tight on the opposing team all over the court. Playing a minus defense should help with the fouls. Playing uptempo also increases fouls by increasing possessions. As long as the other team doesn't throw up a 3-pointer every other shot, you should be able to reduce fouls be playing a -2 to -4 defense and slowdown offense. Probably better to go -2 or -3 slowdown for now then try something lower against a crappy Sim AI team.
As for your IQs and ratings, I think they are high enough that you shouldn't be having this many issues. I was trying to find any other answers but it looks like the servers went down again.

. . actually, that makes sense  I'll try a few changes, perhaps.  Would the fact that Rasberry changed from playing SG one season to PG the next increase his fouls somehow?

Check your fatigue and foul trouble settings.

Normal, fairly fresh.

No position won't have any effect on fouls, just defensive rating. With a stamina of 96 I would say fatigue is not an issue, especially in the games where he is fouling out and only playing 12, 14 or 16 min - even if he played 12 consecutive minutes he shouldn't be tired yet.
A defensive rating of 31 is slightly low for DIII, but if you slow down and move your defense in you should see results soon.

Ok, looking at recruiting for next year. . if all other things were equal, woudl you want your best scorer to be at Small forward, or at shooting guard?
8/14/2010 9:34 PM
Whichever one was a better scorer...
8/14/2010 9:58 PM
I guess, if you had to recruit a scorer is any one position better at scoring than another?
8/14/2010 10:15 PM
Not necessarily.  Depends on the system.  In the triangle or flex I'd rather have a scoring SG, in the motion I might prefer an SF, in the fastbreak I don't really care...

Trying to figure out how to use what I have left and figure out what to recruit, seems a bit of a hodgepodge of players coming back.

I figure, maybe:
PG:  Cox/?
SG: Davis/?
SF: Meyer/?
PF: Newman/?
C : Haglund/Bell
