is there a font-color based function in excel? Topic

every time i copy recruit lists into excel, i have to manually sort the players by rating color before i can compute potential (ex. sort green-black-red then do the +25 for green etc.)

is there a way to do that automatically? something like, if font color in a1=green, =a1+25

yes - its called conditional formatting

I did something similar in an OpenOffice.org Calc spreadsheet and I used a variable called CharColor.

I do not think you can do it in an equation in the spreadsheet, it would likely instead need to be a macro.  Here is something I found to figure out what the character color is in Excel using ColorIndex (this seems similar to in CharColor openoffice):

Color Palette and the 56 Excel ColorIndex Colors

I have not done anything with this yet, so I am not sure exactly how I would go about it.

I'd be very interested in finding a way to do this.

Mully, I think we're looking to do the opposite of what that does - that is, generate a value based on color, not the other way around.

yeah, you're right

I'm trying to wrap my head around this.  You are saying "If green, assign this value..."  and not "if this value, assign this color..."

He's trying to add the potential (high = 25, but high also = green) to the current value.  Example.  LP is 70 and high potential.  When he exports the ratings to excel, is there a way to automatically add the 25 points for high potential to the 70 for low post, simply through Excel recognizing the color "green" on the ratings.

And no, I have absolutely no idea how to do that, but if anyone else does I'd love to learn

Right.  For instance, if we had a hypothetical list of numbers, all of which were green, black, and red, we could hypothetically get values out of this that could be plugged into formulas that we hypothetically have ready.

Currently, I'm using "sort by color" and typing in the h's and l's manually.

Your copy into excel preserves the font color for potential?

Yours doesn't?

It isn't, no,

Man, if I could figure out a way to do this, it might keep me around a few more seasons.

I am so sick of manually changing the red and green numbers.  Takes freakin forever.

does someone have a template of the excel form that they would be willing to email me?
