We're mid-season in both, but:

Naismith: 3 openings

Wooden: 0 openings.

Darn and two of those Naimith openings are in the Big 12.

Im not sure that I'm alone on this but I think part of the problem is the rehiring process for people that left a world and want to rejoin. I know Ive seen several instances of this in the last couple of weeks. Personally, I left a Big 6 conference and wanted to rejoin Phelan in this most recent cycle. I was unable to land a job at other Big 6 schools with B or B- prestige so I decided simply to stay on the sidelines.

Allen actually has 7: Tex Tech, Providence, Pittsburgh, Washington, Ariz St., S. Carolina, and Arkansas.

I think part of it is a lot of old coaches don't like the new engine and quit with pretty good teams and made it hard for anybody to take over those schools because the prestiges were so good. But I think once those schools see their prestiges drop or other coaches build their resumes you will see the # of openings in BCS conference drop significantly. It won't take more than a couple of months.

I think a big problem is the recruiting.  In Tark, we have two openings in the Big East, Cincy and Syracuse.  No one was eligible to take them over or the few coaches who were were already at a great program.  So, in recruiting, these two schools that were A+ and had 4 openings and 7 openings, signed no one.  Now, they will have tons of openings and the prestige will start to fall.  By the time someone takes them over, the school will be a mess.

iba-12

fwiw the a10 was recently the best conference in iba (until pottle retired)...although there was a small exodus this past offseason. 4 openings in the a10.

Same thing happened to Allen's Big Sky, jet - Sacramento State (B,) Idaho State (B+,) Montana (A-),,and Southern (A) are all Sims.

Instead of waiting for these programs to get trashed, would it be better to let the best DI-qualified human who applied get the job, regardless of other qualifications?  If so, then maybe the program's prestige should be reset to the higher of the school's baseline prestige or the highest prestige school that coach would otherwise qualify for.  This would help revitalize the BCS conferences and give coaches stuck in low tier conferences that are full of SIMAIs a path out of that quagmire.

Uh, no. The BCS conferences don't need revitalization. A few sim teams aren't killing any of them. Coaches need to earn promotions. Too many people expect the world to be given to them. You appreciate that which you work for.

Allen: 7 BCS openings.

The BCS schools will always be fine. Even if one gets trashed, there is never really a shortage of coaches willing to rebuild. Better for the game to (a) have coaches actually earn it, as cb says, and (b) keep the current low/mid teams occupied and stronger.

I don't think that's a big part of it. I'm sure that's happened in some instances, but in the worlds that I'm in the BCS openings are lower-prestige schools.

Have you seen the recruits available for lower tier D1 programs? With all the sims in those conferences, conference $ are limited. The disparity between recruits is bigger than ever, and with simmy now throwing bigger $ at fewer recruits, it is harder for mid-level programs to move up.

Explain to me then, if coaches are supposed to earn their promotions, why a Big 6 school (Texas Tech,my alma mater, in Crum) would not take me on as the coach. They are currently SIMAI after the job opening phase has been completed. I have taken a mediocre mid major (UMBC) and turned them into a viable NT team year in and year out. Granted I have had some stumbles along the way, but UMBC is still a very good team. Texas Tech had a down year and is looking at several more with the way Simmy recruited last season. Aside from prestige being better, taking the Tech job would have probably been a step down inclass for a season for me.

We have seen time and time again in real life that a mid major successful coach does get hired by Big 6 teams. Time for Whatif to step up to the plate.
