How To Rebuild A Disaster 2: Season 17-? Topic

As you should very well know, csherwood posted "WKRP Radio (or How to Rebuild a Disaster)" three years ago, detailing his attempt to rebuild a pathetic team and become a dynasty. While csherwood's team averaged 65 wins over its three seasons prior to his joining, my new team has won 56, 51, 56, and 50 games under 7of9 and tk21775 the last four seasons (tk21775 was only for half a season, 7of9 had 3 and a half seasons.)

The team has finished first zero times, second once, third 8 times, and fourth 7 times in 16 seasons, with a total of 3 winning seasons, and only one with 84 wins or above. They have only made the playoffs once, as a wild card obviously, in season 1, and lost the Division Championship Series 3-1. Most importantly, after arb and FA demands, the team's projected payroll is $91M, though most of my free agents will walk to reduce salary.

The Santa Fe LET'S PLAY, named after my "Let's Play" video game walkthroughs on YouTube and my desire to play as soon as possible, are ready to begin season 17... but can I prove how to rebuild a disaster when csherwood couldn't?

(I chose Santa Fe because my most successful prior team, and my only division winning team, was in Albuquerque, so I'm experienced with these kinds of hitters' parks.)

As this team is just a shell at this point, I have one thing to say: I will trade multi-year contracts for backups, just to get through one season. Then I'll concentrate on winning.

What I need is pitching. Lots of it. One of the departing FA pitchers is a Type B, but no one will sign him anyway, so I might keep him. The rest of the guys are junk mopup types demanding 3 million or more. They're leaving, no doubt about it.

I've seen some of the let's play video game walkthroughs...I've thought about making a let's play HBD video for n00bs to look at, but I haven't gotten around to putting in the effort, and it would be mostly for my own enjoyment anyway as I doubt it would top 100 views.  But maybe some people would find it useful.

Should I point out that when csherwood created that thread he was tied for the all-time most HBD championships?

I'm not going to say you don't know what you're doing, but when I seek advice, I tend to try to look to people with overwhelming histories of success.

Considering your defense needs more range, and you'll need about 8 more ML caliber pitchers, I'd say Santa Fe was a bad choice.

Isn't that the entire point? Kinda like playing Kaizo Mario while everyone else is playing normal Super Mario World.

The team preview and roster posts will be up tomorrow after budgets are set.

As an owner is this world, I wish you luck. I hope this thread builds a little buzz for the world which will help us at the end of this season going into next. While I doubt I'll be looking to this thread for the type of advice I garnered from csherwood's thread or MikeT's Rebuilding Las Vegas thread, I'm sure your chronicles of trial and tribulation in this project will be entertaining. I'm speculating that this process will help you improve your own game, as you put more thought into your moves and then start recieving "feedback" from other users as to your thought process. I had considered doing this for those reasons, but quickly realized I lack the time.

It would get more hits than "deano's guide on how to be handy with the ladies"

Don't let the HBD forum Nazi's get to you bbwinnow. Have fun with your thread, I'm sure I will check in once and a while and see how you are doing!

you should have taken my old franchise to do this. Plus, while your team is worse record-wise then the one I took over, you have tons of payroll room. one of my goals in WKRP was to find a team with huge salary commitments too (I started with almost 100 million committed due to bad contracts by the prior owner). And in the end, my WKRP thread was more about giving advice to people about how to get through a season than about how well that team actually did, though I didhave it turned arond heading in a verygood direction when I left the league (though subsequent owners trashed it again)
