I have to agree with dahsdebater here. The game is designed to make you pay your dues in low D-1 then mid major before Big 6..Nothing wrong with that, If you want to be a d2 superstar.. great, but dont expect an ACC job when you are ready to move
And I would also say that if you're actually
having to take this route to end up at a BCS school, you're probably just not having enough success at the previous school. It's fairly easy to get to a BCS school as long as the conference has openings, and to suggest that you
HAVE to go low D-1, then mid-major, before landing a BCS school is just not correct.
I can't count on one hand, literally, the number of times I've jumped straight from D2 to a BCS conference. Granted, I was at those D2 schools for an extremely long time and was very, very successful with those teams, so I know how long it takes to qualify for those jobs. I'm here to tell you though, it's not as long as you may seem to think. It's all about success and timing.
To those new coaches who happen to be reading this thread, yes I guess the "traditional" route is D3, D2, low D-1, mid-major D1, then BCS school, but it CERTAINLY doesn't have to be that way. At all.
