Higher Rated Players Topic

I have been at this game several seasons, and have yet to see how I can produce higher rated pitchers and position players.  Could someone offer me some advise as to how this is accomplished.  Thank You.

Well, you don't exactly produce higher ratings, but you can develop them better if the potential is there.  Playing time and good coaches will help ratings progress.  But it starts with acquiring players with good projections.

<sarcasm>Or you can try to find cheat codes.<sarcasm>

Raise your scouting for drafted players, look for guys with patience and work ethic they will have a better chance at hitting potential with quality coaching.

Player development is a function mostly of playing time and coaching, as well as age and route of acquisition (INTL vs draft).

The two best ways to make an individual player reach the best ratings he can achieve is to play them as much as possible while still keeping their fatigue manageable (I run most of my prospects into the low 90s), and hire coaches with good ratings in the relevant categories and also good patience and discipline ratings.  Remember that your major league fielding coach is the key determinant of your minor leaguers' fielding development.

The best way to find players that are destined to be better than others is to put more $$ into the non-advance scouting budgets.

"route of acquisition (INTL vs draft)"

Huh?

Sorry to be unclear.  For players age > 18 there is much less expected development for Intl's than college draftees.  This is not true for 18 yo Intl's vs HS draftees.

Not sure I agree with that.  One of the factors in development that I noticed is the gap between current ratings and projections.  The bigger the gap (and the younger the player), the "faster" he will progress towards those ratings.

That's why you'll often see a young DITR take bigger jumps in his ratings during the development cycles immediately after his DITR boost than immediately before.

I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with whether the players originated as an Intl' vs. a HS draftee.  Unless it's your observation/contention that 18 y/o internationals tend to have a bigger gap between current and projected than do HS kids, in which case the "difference" is incidental.

FIrst of all, it is not true for 18 year olds.
Second, the gap between projections and current at time of acquisition depends heavily on scouting budget, and on what projections you see.

All that said, internationals signed at the age of 19 gain fewer points before they stop gaining that do JuCo draftees signed at the age of 19.  This gap is more pronounced between intls signed at the age of 20 and JuCos drafted at the age of 20, and intls signed at the age of 21 gain very few points at all.

By definition, of course, you see this in the projections, more validly if you spend more; otherwise scouting would be worthless.  But the growth gap, no matter what you spend on scouting and therefore what projections you see, is HUGE.

Do most veteran coaches run their prospects into the low 90s?

I honestly don't know how to balance fatigue (and the possibility of injury) with playing time.  I let my prospects play until their fatigue is in the mid to low 90s.  It's a guess as to how well it works, and I'd listen to other suggestions.

I won't play position prospects at less than 98%.  Not worth the risk of injury.

Not saying you're wrong, dedelman, I have no idea.  I was curious because I don't let them get below 98%, but I was wondering if it was worth it to play them longer.
