Signing DI Players at DIII Topic

There was a pretty lively debate recently about whether or not it is possible for a DIII school to sign a player that originally appears on their DI recruit list. I can now confirm that it is possible. I just signed a C named Jay Miron who will be a good one for me. Not NPOY good or anything, but a very solid recruit. He is only 10 miles from me which obviously helped. This was the message my assistant coach gave me about his projected level: "Overall, I think a DII school would be lucky to get him, otherwise he'll probably thrive in a low Division I program."

Athleticism 41 High   Perimeter 1 High
Speed 9 Low   Ball Handling 27 Average
Rebounding 67 High   Passing 35 Average
Defense 39 High   Stamina 74 Low
Shot Blocking 67 Low   Durability 44 High
Low-post 47 Average   FT Shooting   Average

oh, and for those who are curious: it took about $2800 to land him.

I would think that he should be a very good D3 player.  Congrats!

It's gotta happen sooner or later, right?

Plus, with the lowering of FG%, we may have a chance of holding someone scoreless.

Did you actually see that guy on your D1 search, because I've gotten that message a bunch of times on guys I sign at D3, who started on my D2 search (A+ prestige).

I pulled a PG off my D1 search list.  He was only 10 miles out.  If they are close enough to you you can pull them down.  I got the same msg pj got...and like you've i've also gotten that msg from guys that started on my D2 list.

My guess is that if they are really low D1 level and close to home you have a shot.

I can also confirm this as I had multiple d1 guys in my original search that dropped to d2 and were then available to be recruited by me. Unfortunately, they weren't better than the d2 guys I got.

Very cool and very good to know. Nice job bow2dacowz.

Was your guy prompted to come as cheaply? Only $2800 or so?

Same question to you, tk? Only around $2800 in cost (assuming no battle)?

Interesting, I had always assumed D1 was out of the question, so never tried it.

You can pull-down any 10-mile recruit for about $1,620, so I wouldn't call $2,800 cheap.
