1969 Original Franchise Progressive Lg(Yr 1-FULL!) Topic

Theme Description
This is a progressive league starting in 1969 using only the 16 original MLB franchises.  Choosing a franchise only gives you rights to the team name and stadium.  Claims on franchises are first come/first serve.  This will be a standard progressive league with no salary cap restrictions and no minimum/maximum # of keepers from season to season.  We will consider a one time expansion sometime in the 90's to a maximum # of 24 teams.  This will be voted on prior to the start of that decade and actual rules and procedures will be determined at that point.

Theme Rules
1.   League Format:  Alt WIS Format B (4/4/4/4--4 total playoff teams:  Balanced schedule and No Interleague Play)

2.   Alignment will be as follows (Teams in Bold Taken):
  • NL East:  Reds, Pirates, Braves, Phils
  • NL West:  Cubs, Cards, Dodgers, Giants
  • AL East:  Yanks, Red Sox, Orioles, Twins
  • AL West:  White Sox, Indians, A's, Tigers
3.   DH and AAA will not be used.  Trades will be allowed with 6 vetoes needed to block a trade.  Off-season trades as a general rule will not be voted on but the league reserves the right by 2/3rds majority to overturn trades that appear to be based on collusion and/or trades not made in good faith (i.e. disgruntled owner destroying roster before quitting).

4.   Injuries and transaction deadline are set to Yes.

5.   No salary cap (cap set high enough to not be a factor).

6.   Ballparks:  Only the home park in 1969 of the 16 original franchises outlined above will be used.  From year to year, you must use your team's actual ballpark used during that season.

7.   Player Season Types:  Can use full, partial or combined season of any WIS eligible player from 1969.  Obviously only one instance of each player allowed.

8.   DL:  Allowed for players who drop out of the SIM for one or more seasons.  No restrictions on how many players a team can have on the DL at any one time.  Only rule is the player must go back to active roster or be dropped once SIM eligible again.

Draft Format
Draft format for the first year will be using the WIS draft tool unless a majority wants to do it in the forums; in which case I would prefer no weekend schedule as my weekends don't allow for keeping caught up.  Future drafts will be in the forums.  Assuming we stick to the Automatic Draft Format for year one, the following settings will be used:
  • Starts 10:00AM EST / Ends 11:00PM EST
  • Draft Slots are 30 minutes with Time Duration Limit Forced
  • Snake Format:  1-16, 16-1
  • 2 picks/Rd beginning with round 20
  • Total Draft will take approx. 15 days
  • Draft order is random
If we end up doing a manual draft in the forums, it will basically be under the same guidelines except no weekend schedule.  Also, if we do draft manually, I believe in 3RS (3rd Round Serpentine) which is 1-16, 16-1, 16-1, 1-16...etc.  A lot of National Fantasy Football contests use this format and I think it is more fair to the league as a whole.

Draft rules for future drafts are as follows:
  • Draft order will be based on record at the 120 game mark
  • There will be a win floor (described below) but no lottery used
  • Draft order will be 1-16 each round
  • Ties will be settled by Exp Win %, then head to head, then runs allowed, then coin flip
  • On tiebreakers, worst goes first each round
  • Draft picks can be traded no more than one draft ahead of next scheduled (or current if underway)

Win Floor Rule
Win Floor will be set at 35 at the 120 gm mark. If you win 33-34 games, you lose 2 spots in round 1, If you win 30-32 games, you lose 4 spots in round 1, if you win 28-29 games, you lose 6 spots in round 1, if you win 25-27 games, you lose 8 spots in round 1, and if you fail to win at least 25, you bump to the end of round 1.

Example:  Team A wins 32 games and Team B wins 34.  All other teams win at least 35 games.  Team A loses 4 spots and will therefore pick 5th overall (1st >> 5th).  Team B loses 2 spots and will therefore pick 4th (2nd >>4th).  The rest of the draft order is determined by wins at the 120 game mark.  In this example, the first overall pick would go to the team with the worst record who had at least 35 wins.  Team B has 2nd pick, then 2 more picks, then team A with 5th overall pick.  Win floor is not in effect for all other rounds.

I may have missed this in the original post, I apologize if I did - but what about the draft order in future seasons? Will there be a min. win mark?
