Men's Room Hall of Fame Topic

I just added another sports figure to my personal Men's Room Hall of Fame; i.e., sports celebrities with whom I've shared men's rooms.

The first was Mickey Mantle -- in an airport when I was 19. He was smoking.

Then Sonny Liston -- at the next urinal in Las Vegas. He wasn't smoking; he was the ex-champ then.

Then Al Hbrabosky -- in the press box restroom at old Busch.

Today Lenny Wilkins -- in the Seattle airport. It turned out the passenger across the aisle from me was his son. Lenny was in first class; his son in coach. When I remarked on that, he just said, "I didn't have enough sky miles."

I also had my haircut at the same time as Lew Alcindor (Abdul Jabbar) one day on campus at UCLA; but that wasn't a restroom and I don't have a "haircut hall of fame."

Shared an elevator with George Brett in my apartment building around 1977 in NYC.  He was with an attractive young lady and they were both drunk.

Greeted David Cone in a restaurant around 15 years ago.

Met Mike Schmidt outside of Busch Stadium in 1981...he was very nice and talked for a few minutes.

Met Milt Thompson in "Ozzie's" restaurant while having dinner...extremely friendly.

Met Brian Jordan in 1993 coming out of a nightclub in St Louis...I don't remember which of us was the most messed up.

I must admit that I've never had the opportunity to meet any MLB players while in the men's room......at least those that I remember.

met Ed Farmer and Darren Jackson in the radio broadcast booth before a White Sox game. Spent 45minutes before the game with them chatting and joking around. Awesome guys. At one point Ed was in a middle of a story and his producer told him he had 15 seconds before he was "on air"  for his pre-game broadcast  and he told him "hold on"....and proceeded to finish his story with literally 1 second to spare at which point he swung around in his seat and went into his opening on air...cool guy.

I've met a few NASCAR drivers and crew chiefs back when I used to go watch them in Atlanta, Charlotte, Talledaga, Daytona Beach, and Bristol, TN.

We saw Rusty Wallace at the Atlanta Hilton Bar late Saturday night sitting at a table by himself except for 7-8 empty Miller bottles.  He motioned us over to join him and we sat and talked with him for about 20 minutes.  He was pretty hammered and finished way back in the pack the next day.  Jeff Hammond was sitting at the bar with some of his pit crew.  (This was when he was a crew chief and before his gig with FOX.)  He was very friendly and not nearly as drunk as Wallace.  We only chatted for about a minute or two.

Way back in July 1981, we were staying at a hotel on Daytona Beach for a vacation.  We were at the pool when Neal Bonnett and "Handsome" Harry Gant (Can't figure out how he got that nickname.)  They came over and sat with us for about an hour and shared a few beers and great conversation.  It was the weekend of the 4th and the Firecracker 400.

I am the Kwisatz Haderach. Does that count?

If not, will admit have never had a "mensroom" thing, but have met (and by met I mean more than a 30sec handshake)

Charles Barkley in Narberth Pa. More than a  few times. He was dating a local girl and for some odd reason they ran into our "posse" (me and my 3 best buds, all VERY white kids) on about 10 occasions. It was at farmer's markets, the movie theatre(s) and local (ie not TGI Friday's) restaurants. He was always a gentleman. After the first coupla times, he recognized us and asked me if we were following him, my reply was something to the tune of, "we've never snapped your photo, asked for an autograph, interrupted your day, asked for a  handshake or bought you a drink, you're a Sixer, just do your job..." He grinned ear to ear. After that, when he saw us it was the headnod thing....and a smile. Like I said, a good dude.

Lenny Dykstra in the Wayne Diner in the Philly suburbs. 2x. He and Dutch were dating the local talent. First time he sat w/ "the posse" after we recognized him. Again, it was low key. My friend walked up and asked him to join us at @1am. He did.  Lenny ate enough for @2 people, picked up our tab and laughed at the waitress when she saw the tab/tip. He said something like, "bet you never thought you'd get a tip like this when saw me."
A few months later, I was in the same diner w/ my girlfriend and saw him in the corner booth. I picked up his tab this time, when he found out he came over and sat w/ us. AND ATE AGAIN. But he recalled in details when he met us the first time... I gotta tell you though, he was rough, but a good guy.
I have read all the stuff he's going through, but alas, all my "dishing" is that he was a great guy....

Met Scott Rolen 3x, all at fastfood stops. Each time he saw I recognized him, we exchanged the headnod and mini smile. The last time he held open the door for me and my neices. Again, he's hard to miss, but each time he a cool dude...

Growing up in the Philly 'burbs, I've had other interractions and will admit when not "cornered" all the Philly atheletes have been great. (minus of course A.I.)

This made me smile. I could literally write a book about my dealings with celebs.  Back in the '80's I was blonde and cute  with a great personality and 'worked' as a Host for a big casino. I partied with all of them. Made lots and lots of money. Good times (mostly)

I'll write my story here someday (probably after a few glasses of Merlot). Probably shouldn't name names though.

I would buy that book!

micki, you are a tease.  Can you give us a quick story?
8/28/2011 9:53 PM
I'm sure Micki has had your share of Tigers in the tank.  But now that you've got all of us (`cept maybe Amy) thinking about the hot young blonde Vegas hostess party animal, I think you should indulge us with one little story to send us off to sleep with a smile.  And don't you still owe us a pickle story?  BTW, my assistant for five years moonlighted by dancing at Scores on the weekend.  Bright boy here never had a clue (well, maybe a clue).
