I am interested to hear from Malone, why choose Bill at #13 with a few studs still remaining?

only one surprise that i can see so far is malone's bill russell going 13th. but malone has surprised us in the past few drafts, so maybe it isn't a surprise after all. perhaps some will say tricky's pick of paul was a bit of a stretch, but i likethe paul pick. not sure if howard should have gone at number 6, but, he's a beast. just hate those centers that can't hit ft's, especially howard who takes 900 of them. anyway, clean draft so far.

with the defensive ratings drop he seems less valuable.

I took Russ around that time one or two drafts ago and made it well into the playoffs. Russell is not to be trifled with.

We can all be thankful that tarheel will be doing the evals this time. Not much of a clue of what do do here. I traded up in the last draft to get Wilt because he looked like a sure bet. It's painfully obvious after tarheel's victory this past season that very good defense overall is needed to win in this league. I'm almost certain that Ash is going to take the guy that I want in round 1 anyway!

Malone's picks don't shock or surprise me anymore. But let's see who he picks in round 2 LOL!

With the drop in defense Russell has become something of a value oddly.  He is still very solid defensively but now you are looking at a rebounding beast that eats up a ton of minutes at a low usage rate and he passes well for a big and has low fouls.

Usage and scoring are very easy to find at any point in this draft.

Rebounds + defense + low fouls are now a rare thing.  Russell's value (and a couple of other guys who haven't been drafted yet) should go back up.  I still want the kitchen sink with my first pick, because it's a lot easier to build around an offensive guy that you already have than to guess who might be around later.  But there are certain guys (Rodman, Russell, another one or two yet to be drafted) that it's worth it.  I think that maybe 13 was a tad high, but not overly much.  I feel like Russell is a 16-20ish type pick.

What's the consensus on taking Rodman 1st and MJ 2nd, leaving Wilt until #3?

In the 42 Mil Draft I would go Rodman or LeBron first.  In this draft I would go Wilt first, but you can't really argue as long as the top four are Rodman, MJ, LeBron, and Wilt.

I think MJ went 2 picks early.  Rodman - Wilt - Lebron - MJ is the order IMO.  Howard & Moses flip-flopped value for me.  Big debate between Shaq/Kareem & Admiral, but I think Shaq should have gone where Kareem went, Kareem next, then some other guys (Magic, Bird) before the Admiral.  Mailman fell too far, too.

I feel pretty good about getting Kidd and Love where I did, nice start on boards, assists,  and 3s, pretty low negatives. But, lots of work to do to build around them. Will see how it works out. Was torn between Kidd/Robertson and an undrafted center with my second pick. I predict i will not make the playoffs no matter who I draft.

Surprised Shaq dropped like he did.

Kobe and Dr. J seem like mild surprises to go when they did.

The goal in the first round, especially in a 52 mil league, is always to get things you can't get later. Anyone who goes in the first round - even the first two - should have one of two things:

1. One or a couple of dominant characteristics that only a small handful of players (or players at a certain position) have
2. An amazingly wide array of skills that you can rarely get all in the same package

If you are taking someone in the first round who is valuable because of the number of minutes they played, or because of the amount of usage they have, you're missing the boat. In this league especially (because of the 52 mil cap) it is ALWAYS quality over quantity. Obviously you don't want to be taking 1500 minute guys in the first round, but you shouldn't feel obliged to take someone with 3200+ minutes either. Similarly, in terms of usage, efficient usage by itself will be available all throughout the draft, and plenty of high-usage, efficient scorers will be left even after it's done. There's nothing wrong with taking a high usage guy early, but he better be efficient with that usage or it's a wasted pick. Guys like Howard, Mailman, Shaq, Jordan and others are first rounders because they combine amazing efficiency with great usage.

Also, you don't want to take guys with big weaknesses earlier. Which is why I just can't get on board with Kevin Love as a pick this early. Yes, his overall package is tempting. But his defense will absolutely kill you, especially if you don't combine him with a post man with great defense. And I've got bad news for logain - there aren't going to be a lot of guys, if any, with 80+ defense around at the end of the 3rd round who don't bring significant other negatives with them (fouls, bad efficiency, lower rebounding). Not good to pin yourself into a corner early in the draft, and I feel like Love puts an owner squarely behind the 8-ball when it comes to covering for him later.

Don't mean to pick too much on logain, but besides the Love pick I really think the rest of the round was solid. I would never pick Kobe in the first round of a 52 mil league (although as I said in the last league's chat, vance's success is making me rethink relatively low efg guys who shoot a ton of FT at high percentage). But overall, very little to criticize.

Tarheel don't forget to not mention undrafted players. I do appreciate the positive feedback concerning last season. Nice job s far. I'm really looking forward to the rest of your evals! Thanks.
