Wasted my money on him in a theme league. He profiled as the best pitcher who had been one of my key player's teammates, but he can't get anyone out. He was supposed to be my ace.

I know it's probably only bad luck and a half-season is a small sample size -- but I won't soon draft Hendrix again.

My pitchers don't-draft list now comprises: Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, Claude Hendrix and Mike Cuellar.

I must agree, although I have had success with Ryan and hendrix b4 the last update.

I love Hendrix; I think he's one of the best bargain pitchers in the sim.  Ryan always walks too many people, and both he and Clemens are overly expensive because the cost of Ks is way too high for something that you could argue is even a negative attribute.  Cuellar just typically normalizes poorly and was never that incredibly dominant...  So those 3 I can explain.  But Hendrix is great.

I took Hendrix in the 120M theme of the schwarze tourney. I would agree he's been a major disappointment. It's a tough league for pitchers but he hasn't come close to what I was hoping for.

In the 3rd season of the DT Prime Nine League, 130MCap,  finn2030 used him and he was tough to beat.

Hendrix is a damn good pitcher, but if he's really that bad halfway through, just dump him for another good pitcher and quit HOPING that he'll turn it around. I don't think many big league GMs would keep a job if they didn't attempt to shore up their rotation when their supposed 'ace' has gotten clobbered for half a season, under the proposition that half a season is only a "small sample size".  I say make a move before its too late.

Sorry to hear that because I know the feeling when you're getting crap from a supposed superstar.  As a point in fact, I'm currently going through the same thing with Silver King.  Even though it's an OL, he's still pretty much un-dumpable due to the number of innings he has.  He's getting smacked around pretty good and the other teams are hitting almost .300 against him at the DOME!!!!!!  I can't wait til Charlie Ferguson hits the wire. lol

Real-life Big League GMs don't have the same kind of concrete knowledge of a player's "abilities" or expectation values that sim GMs do.  That's a terrible comparison.

A real-life GM would also never - literally never - release a high-priced player outright in mid-season.  So the analogy doesn't work there either.

Well, I sure hope Hendrix '14  comes through for me. He is a key component of the plan to land Ruth via draft in 1915.

Did Zambrano get released this year?

What about Oliver Perez?

There seems to be a misconception that you can get a "bad" version of a player-year.  According to admin, the sim simply doesn't work that way.  You know the underlying stats upon which a player's performance is based; real-life GMs do not.  Real-life GMs also face issues of injuries and personality conflicts.

To me there are only 4 reasons to use the WW:
1)  You dumped your $200K scrubs and want to pick up a usable bat or arm.  This is the best and only systemic reason for utilizing the WW.
2) You plain drafted wrong.  You either accidently selcted the wrong player-year or you tried a strategy that just doesn't work.  Drafting a 700ip pitcher as your ace or drafting a modern right-handed slugger as your power threat could be an example of this.  (Another example: I once tried very low oavg, high BB/9 pitchers in relief.  I wound up dumping them and a position player to construct a relief corps that worked.)
3) You drew a stud AAA player that made one of your regulars unecessary and you can't trade that AAA for a better fit.  The first part happens enough, though in general, to me, trading seems under-used in this case.
4) For what-ever reason your in-division or in-league opponents don't mesh well with your strategy.  I think this is way over-used as a rationale, but it does rarely happen...  Perhaps there are 3 Coors teams in your division and you tried squeaking by with 1100 ip at Safeco...

Funny you should bring up Cuellar.  Just wanted to pass along my experience with him in a Prog.  The '66 version of him at $7.1M he was untouchable, going 21-1 (WOW) with a 1.01 whip.  Won the Cy Young.  We're now in 1969 and this version is a $9.71M value.  So I figure he'll dominate, easily win 20 and I should cruise in my division.  Uhuh...he's currently 9-11, 9 and freakin' 11 with 1.36 whip about 2/3 of the way thru the season....go figure.

Sure he would Contrarian, if he had access to the type of players on the waiver wire that we have.
