Ok so I've had players demand 8 or 9 minutes a game before...but I just signed a juco...with no promises...have played him about 11 minutes per game, and now 9 games into the season he is demanding FIFTEEN minutes per game.

Seems like if you sign a player with no promises they shouldn't be able to complain in that first season, let alone demand that many minutes since there is no way for us to respond to them..

Anyone had players demand that kind of playing time...or god forbid, more than that?

Almost every time I have an upperclassmen with less than 10 mmg, he complains.  But they've always been sophomores because I don't recruit JUCOs who are Jrs. or Sr.  Since your player is a junior, I suspect that's why he wants more minutes

When you say  'there's no way to respond to him', do you mean by Email? Or are you saying it's impossible to meet his demands?

He's not getting less than 10 minutes per game.  I'm already playing him 11 and he demanded 4 minutes more.

By responding to him I'm saying that in the real world guys complain, but here there is no way to say listen "youre the last big on the depth chart", or "you're still learning the system", or even "keep complaining and you won't play at all" etc

I do have another team where I have two sophomores complaining for 9 or 10 minutes a game instead of the 6 they are getting now.  The problem is that team plays a zone, and even with a walkon and a redshirt the last 2 guys on my roster (and they aren't even really close to the 8 guys ahead of them)  are barely getting on the court when I have the minutes set at fairly fresh for everyone since the other players have pretty good stamina.  I'll probably have to sacrifice one of them completely to get the other a few extra minutes or else I will lose them both.

It really shouldn't hurt you that much to give him the 15mmg, which is 255 additional minutes this season.   Over your remaining 17 games, you have 7 against weak Sim teams.  If he plays 25 mpg in those 7 games, that's a total of 175 minutes.   You can then split the remaining 80 minutes over the remaining 10 games, which is 8 mmg.

that isn't the point.  i can get him the minutes if i decide i want to although that will not be the way i go about doing it.

i am asking if people have had someone demand 15 minutes per game before, because up to this point in 50 seasons i never have had anyone demand more than 10 minutes or so.

This is nothing new at all, I don't see what the deal is. Players have always complained about minutes based on their class they expect to play a certain amount of minutes, if that isn't happening there is a chance they will complain.

you don't know what the deal is?  i told you what the deals is.  in 50 seasons ive never had a player demand that many minutes and i simply asked if anyone had experienced someone asking for 15 minutes before.  im quite aware that there is a chance players complain and that there always has been.  i've played this game a little bit, but thanks for your condescension.

So what are you complaining about?

Just kidding.  I don't remember anyone ever expecting 15 mpg either, but I think it's probably just that neither of us sign upperclassmen juco players and, as such, always have our upperclassmen getting plenty of minutes.

as z says, this isnt new - if you have not recruited jucos you would not have seen it

first year - that is freshnen - players dont demand time unless it is promised

sophs demand apx 10 mins

juniors - whether juco or not - demand apx 15

there are folks who have studied the exact demands and posted them - above are rough

I often promise a juco2 10 minutes because I think - dont know - that that promise overrides any other level he might demand

interesting thought on the promises.  definitely something to keep in mind.

i've recruited a ton of jucos, especially at D3 and D2 when I have classes of 3+ because I like to try and keep my classes somewhat balanced, but even still I've never had one make that kind of demand before.  Maybe I've been lucky, but very few of my jucos have played 15 minutes a game in their first year, unless they already knew our system.

I have seen JRs demanding 15mpg quite often on my teams. I generally overrecruit back court which leads to not enough minutes for anyone other than my SRs.

I have a note on one of my teams right now- Player XXX wants 15.

You won't see it often though because most Juniors play that much.

As for if we should be able to respond, that I wish was a feature as well.  Specifically for low WE guys- "Look buddy, if you don't work hard in practice, you won't play."  Sure, I'd like a 70/30 chance that makes it worse, but typically if a guy isn't playing the minutes, there's a good reason.  Or maybe be able to try and calm them by promising minutes next season.

asher, I don't really get the low we point ... you knew his we when you decided to recruit him, and know it can only increase incrementally.

As others have said, this isn't a new phenomenon. If you've got an upperclassmen who's not an integral part of the rotation (i.e. at least 15 mpg off the bench), I don't think it's unreasonable for him to be annoyed about PT.

I've never liked the complaining aspect in this game. In real life guys would rarely go to their coach and demand more minutes or else. But in this game every single player has that capability.

Really, you don't think so? Transfers are far, far more common in real life, and very often (but not always) it's because the guy is upset about his role on the team.
