HR factors are based on actual stats from those parks, not field dimensions.  Over any period of years, games in the Astrodome had very few HR compared to games in any other MLB park.  That's why the -4.  Things such as visibility, weather, wind, etc all would play a role in a park's actual HR tendencies.

It has nothing to do with the dimensions, only how the park played at the time. The Astrodome was a place where no one ever hit homers. Arlington is a place where there are a few less than expected.

My brief experience agrees that pitchers' parks are better simply because I can draft fewer Innings and also fewer PAs for my hitters. But I also find that my teams are more successful in pitchers' parks because when my pitchers perform well I win and when they don't I lose, even if I have the best hitting in the league. I have not yet figured out how to win with better offense than pitching.
Looks to me like your doing pretty good 20 seasons 2 championships. It takes a while to get the hang of it. Keep playing!! Sim likes obp, best short advice I could give.

When I used to care more about winning I liked low HR/9# pitchers and high avg# (low home run hitters as you over pay for hr's) in Jefferson Street Grounds or Comerica.  I won a bunch of championships with that formula.

The first time I played sim I made it to the WS and had a 3 games to 0 lead and lost 4 straight with 95 Maddux and 3 Finger Brown (either 08 or 09) as my SPs. Though it left a bad taste in my mouth, I got hooked on the sim. I played that season in Dodger Stadium and it still has a warm place in my heart, but I am looking to try a variety of parks and learn them better. Are stadiums like players, where some perform better than you would expect while others perform worse? Do the numbers lie sometimes? What stadiums are most offensive or more defensive than their numbers suggest?

I've been able to make the playoffs with offense-oriented teams but not win the playoffs. Pitching is just too important in the playoffs to win without it.

The only exception is theme leagues in which the pitching quality is limited by the league rules. And even if you win a championship in one of those, your team will be dead on arrival in the T of C.

I tend to use Astrodome, AT&T or Busch II in leagues with open-league rules.

In a few weeks I am going to try an extremely balanced offensive team at Shea (0, -1, -1, -1,-1) but with 3 out of my 4 pitchers non-dead ball guys I may be in for some trouble.
