double thanks for the post but isnt the SIM engine supposed to reduce the number of errors in this situation drmamtcially?  And if not why is the price tag so exhorbitant if he is not a legit option?

What are his ratings?   If he is a  D/A old time guy, the best you can hope for (with all modern hitters and pitchers) is for him to play like a a D/A modern guy.    Maybe 30 errors?  Just guessing.

If you guys could please give me an anwer relating to the same question. Wise has 152 putouts and 233 assists with 58 errors and .869 fielding percentage.  What number (putouts or assists) are his total chances at plays at ss? Another words if you had a different fielder with the same fielding percentage but had more chances would that fielder make less errors? Do we look at assists as the number of chances? Are old time players with A+ fielding better than modern day A+ fieldiers?

I understand that in theory, the pitchers and hitters are SUPPOSED to make a difference in a player's fielding, but frankly speaking, and I'm only speaking from my own experience, but I've yet to see any true, hard EVIDENCE of it with any of my teams.  I generally use A/D- guys at SS, 2B and 3B and see no real difference in their errors or plus plays regardless of the pitchers I use.  I've had D- infielders with few minus plays with oldtime deadballers AND modern pitchers, as well as the infielders with more minus plays with both type of pitchers.  I could be totally wrong and off base but IMO, IF there's any true difference, I find it to be negligible at best.

I don't generally make it that scientific when I'm putting my infield together, but unless you have one of those oldtime SS with a 6.00 or more RRF, I would stay away from the guy you're talking about because he will kill you in the field just by looking at his raw fielding numbers, regardless of who the pitchers are.

But if you must have Wise on your team, I would consider playing him at 2B.  He would be much better there.
