9th inning scoring Topic

I have 10 active teams and it seems that there is an extraordinary amount of runs scored in the 9th inning of games.  I have blown leads of 1-4 runs and have rallied from deficits of 1-4 runs in the 9th inning of games both live and simmed.

Is it me?  Or is this a trend that seems to be happening all over sim??

In my nine teams' most recent games, I see 3 runs scored total in the 9th innings. Only one of those was a home-team win, so that's an average of .17 runs/half inning. I'd say it's just small sample size.

Steve: Before I looked up any data (I remember long ago somebody else having data that agreed with yours) ... I was expecting to agree with you ... Of the active team with the most games about to finish a season (Getting Closure in an open 120M league) I checked my last seven games ... I was surprised to see my team did not score any runs and only one of the opponent's had his score a run to tie the game (I won game in 14th inning). It's a small sampling and the teams involved may all had had great pens ... Also some teams & ballparks may favor offense. I think we trend to be dramatized and highly impressed by 9th inning scoring ... (-;

just played 3 live.... won 1 of them with a 9th inning run and lost 1 of them with 2 9th inning runs.

just had 7 sim.... 4 of them were won or lost in the 9th inning.  A total of 6 blown saves by closers in those games.  This is not normal...

Maybe you need a better closer?

Over the last few days, I've had games sim in 8 different leagues.  Close to 1/3 of those games have been won or lost with 9th inning runs.  From a statistical point, that is too much, IMHO.

I think that the powers that be at WIS have the game setup to score more in the 9th, thinking that makes it more exciting for the players.  In reality, it makes the game more unrealitic and less fun.

I have to agree with you steve. Way too many crazy late inning rallies of late. Starting pitcher at 0% often does better than a good rested reliever. Game for many reasons doesn't seem as enjoyable anymore.

4 games simmed ovenight.  All 4 of them had runs scored in the 9th inning.  3 of them resulted in the team that was behind winning the game (2 in my favor, 1 against me)... something isn't right...

Top 9th included HBP, HBP, 2-out error, then of course a 3-run go-ahead double. Bottom 9th, I go down in order, naturally. Game is SCRIPTED by Vince McMahon or more likely David Stern. Those involved in the programming (from India no doubt) can go F themselves!

In the last 2 days, I have had 16 games simmed.  10 of them were won or lost by runs in the 9th inning or in extras -- in each case of extras, run(s) in the 9th inning sent the games to extras.

to quote Elton John.... this is getting more and more absurd...

Frankly, the fact that you seem to see a run of 9th inning scoring worth posting about a little less than once a month really shouldn't be a cause for concern...  Overlap 8 RL baseball teams and you can probably find the same thing the equivalent of once every 4 or 5 months.

No, it's more consistant that that... I just haven't been posting much lately.

8 games simmed overnight -- 6 of them had runs scored in the 9th inning to change the lead... I won 4 of the 6, but still... absurd.
