I would rank these- #1 D, B, E, A, #5 C

Not saying the sim would though!

Actual Ranking is D, E, A, B, C.  In the projection report 11, 13, 20, 23, 24.

When I posted this I didn't really have an issue with the projection report, one day later I'm starting to have an issue.  Let me narrow it down to 3 teams now from this list.

Team A- 20-7 RPI 15 SOS 12 Top 50 9-7 50-100 3-0

Team B- 19-9 RPI 18 SOS 2 Top 50 10-7 50-100 5-1

Team C- 20-7 RPI 13 SOS 10 Top 50 7-6 50-100 4-1

Where do you rank them now?

They are extremely close. If I absolutely have to rank them, I would go A, C, B, but it could easily be B, C, A or C, B, A and I wouldn't blink an eye.

Remember that score margin is part of the projection report calculation, so you can't go strictly by RPI and records against. That could easily be the tipping factor when you have three close teams like this. There's also probably a big difference between beating #10 vs. beating #48. Both would show up as Top 50 wins, but they are very different quality. You'd have to take a really close look at the individual games to draw a valid conclusion.

In taking a closer look that does make more sense.  Also there was a team that went from 49 to 51 in RPI and that made a difference.  Here is a look at what RPI they lost to.

Team A- W- 31, 18, 6, 13, 9, 38, 31, 31.  L- 41, 17, 24, 9, 1, 18, 6

Team B- W- 28, 19, 49, 23, 15, 13, 9, 31, 38, 6  L- 1, 15, 9, 31, 6, 1

Team C- W- 22, 38, 1, 38, 31, 9, 1,   L- 2, 15, 18, 6

The team dropping out of the top 50 that all of these teams played made an impact I think.  Do these numbers change anything?

Honestly, I think we are largely splitting hairs here. All 3-4 responders had the same first and last team of the original five. So we're talking about shades of gray/opinion with the 2/3/4 teams. This is really no different than real life, and you can easily make a case for just about any order.

+1, they are so close that it doesn't matter.

You are right girt to an extent, my issue is that if we are splitting hairs why is there a 3 seed level difference between the top team and the bottom team?

So is the top team a #3 seed and the bottom team a #5 seed? That's possible if the other seeds in between also have similar resumes.

As tianyi said (and I hate always being this guy)- what are all the teams involved, not just the two examples.  How do they compare to all the other 3, 4 and 5 seeds?

A, B, C
