At DIII, of course, it's impossible to find the flawless player.

I wish Feingold's PER was higher but with his good ATH and SP, he'll be a good player for you. I like is stamina and DEF, too. Overall, a good catch!

Wadlington and Dubose are both decent players but Dubose should end up a little better. His stamina will limit his minutes, however.

I would be concerned with both Wadlington and Dubose ATH. I generally like my C/PF to have over at least 50 ATH

I agree with the above comment. Try to find post players with higher ATH. Other than that, nice job.

I like Feingold, particularly if you play a press defense.

It can't be overstated how much you need ath and defense, and not just for post players.

dubose and wadlington are both useless. Wadington's ath isn't going to be great and his rebounding is capped, while dubose's ath is terrible.

Won't Dubose's high speed help him a little?

How much can I expect Dubose to improve in Ath by his junior year If I give him 20 mins of conditioning?
2/12/2012 11:17 PM
dubose's ath growth is capped at +7.

My concern would be if you have both Wadlington and Dubose on the floor at the same time, you'll have a relatively weak inside defense (Call is 32 ATH, 40 D and 27/47)  Nothing terrible, but nothing that sets off my jealous meter either.  For a second class, it's pretty good (I've seen much worse after only a season of learning)

agree with tiany -- Waddington is slightly better than useless (at least ATH should get close to 40, maybe 35 -- with the SPD and DEF should make for an OK starter, better backup). Agree that Dubose is useless -- despite the SPD potential, ATH will prevent him from being good at anything.

I like Feingold -- if FCP or M2M will be very good, and should do well in any offense.

For a second class at a C- school, I'd say you got 3 decent players.  Don't worry about the "useless" comment.  That guy's won a bunch of National Championships and I'm sure, for him, those players would be useless.  Kind of like what Roy Williams would think of players on Canisius.  For your team and with your coaching experience, I'd say you did OK.  Not that you shouldn't take the advice given to you here, because that's how most of us learned, but put it perspective.

Yep, I agree. The "useless" comment is more than a little over-dramatic. No, neither post player is going to be a stud, and some opponents will be able to abuse them because of their low ATH. But if you manage their minutes so that you don't have them both on the floor at the same time very often, they can be useful as far as rebounding / shot-blocking. For Wadlington, I would put a ton of practice mins into conditioning right away so that both the ATH and the STA get a little more respectable. One other point on the big men: while both their LP's are going to be good, I'm weary of them as scorers because of the ATH / FT issues.

As far as Feingold, I'm pretty happy with him if either his ATH or his PER is high-high. That would make him a really legitimate sixth man.

Overall, as others have pointed out, the biggest area of improvement for you (as it is for so many new coaches) is to emphasize ATH (for every recruit) and SPD (for guards and SF's) more in the future. Good luck.

You guys can sugar coat your comments all you want but bottom line, the two bigs (the sg is pretty good) will not help you make noise in the tournament, or even making the NT at all.

In d3, there are so many recruits that are interchangeable that as long as you know what kind of players are good, you can build a NC contender type of team with C- prestige. What's the point of giving him feedbacks like these players are ok for your prestige, or for your experience, when he could easily sign much better players?

I'm looking at Wooden D3 right now and there are a bunch of undecided D3 PF/C rated around 400 (in the 10 states I scouted), with 40+ath and 60+ rebound, with high potential in one category and average potential in the other category. All of these players will end up with 50+ ath 80+ rebound and easily contribute to deep NT runs.

Bigs with athleticism capped at the low 30s will never be useful, regardless of defensive scheme.

Similarly, bigs with 42 ath/81 reb (the absolute best case scenario for Wadington) are mediocre at best. You should not be signing a player who's max potential is mediocrity.

The point is that damned few people are signing stud classes their second season in the game. Everything you've said is absolutely correct, but I'd hate to see a new player get frustrated and quit when this game badly needs more human players.
