Best Player You've Ever Coached Topic

Seeing that the "favorite team you ever coached" topic seems to be a hit, why not start one with the best player you have ever coached (at each division if you've been all over), or maybe just favorite player. I started saving player ratings and individual season stats a couple of seasons into my WIS tenure, so I know exactly how good my players were.

I know that a bunch of other users save player ratings/stats, so if so, be as exact as possible.

I'll add a few of my own favorites later, hope this thread turns out to be a good read!

Sebastian Abate was by far my favorite player ever.  In my first class at D2 Quincy, I picked him up with a B- prestige.  He was the 200th ranked Center and he was inelgible, but he had some killer potential.  He ended up with ~90 ath, high 90s rebounding, 80s SB, and 100 LP.  He was an unstoppable D2 player, he's still the all-time leading scorer in D2 Knight, and he was a first-round NBA Draft pick, my first player ever drafted.

My first team at Bard, I had 11 scholarships and no idea how to play the game or recruit.  But I just looked at the highest undecided players, and saw a 535 JUCO name Eric Lacefield.  Somehow not knowing his potentials or anything he turned into quite a player (maybe 730? had 50 ATH) and he was also 6 ft 9 (thought would make him great in the zone I ran)which I thought at the time would make him impossible to guard for all the 6 ft1 SF's I was seeing on other teams.  He turned out to average  like 12 ppg, shot 50 % from the field and was the schools leader in FT %.  He also led us to a 21-6 season.

I wish the game kept individual season stats and not just the aggregate, coz Keegan doesn't look all that impressive, but he had a helluva SR season and won NPOY ... ah, I was able to grab that info from the Collegiate Insider archive: National Player of the Year: Alvin Keegan (26.4 ppg , 4.5 apg, 1.9 spg) Senior PG - Valdosta State University

Of course this was obviously back when guards could score without gaudy lp and per numbers...

I have two guys right now on two different teams that are two of the best players I have ever had at D2

Gary Guidry is definitely my favorite right now because hes absolutely unstopable and I didnt think he would be this good when I recruited him.

William Ruffin is the best big man Ive ever had and hes only a JR with room for growth. I wish he would get more touches but it seem like no matter how much I up his distro he still doesn't get the ball

i'm one of his biggest fans.... no teams in his world, but i still manage to track his stats/progress

My best player in my 20 or so seasons has been Boyd Juhl who averaged 24.1 ppg and 4.6 apg as a Sr. (26.8 ppg and 5 apg in conference)
But my favorite players were Luther Jenkins and Boris Puchalski. Boris was the first international player I ever signed so I initially liked him from his recruiting messages. Neither was ever all that good and they never started, but turned it on during their Jr and Sr years. As Sr's they combined to average 30 ppg and Boris was the CPOY.

I'm going to break this up into favorite player and best player.

My best player was probably either Leroy Bellivue or Dennis Miller - Leroy was on all 2nd team national team, tremendous speed for an SF. Didn't really dominate but had this toolbox approach to the game, I think he led me in assist, pts, second in rebound, 3pt. %, really just did it all. It's because of him I look long and hard to try to find a Leroy Bellivue. Dennis Miller as Conf. POY once, just a dominate C. Glass, Pts, could pass a little, just made the games easier for me to coach, also defend.

My favorite player. so many, maybe Kirk Thoman. Second leading school scorer, his last two years avg. over 20 pts per game. Wasn't on a great team, man I wish I had at least two other pieces to join him. He just dominated the league, any other season he'd would've been POY. Proto SG, couldn't defend, but he had range and speed.

You really think hes getting drafted? He would be my first player ever to be drafted.

Up his distro a bit so he's avg 25-30ppg (easily doable with him shooting .574/.500 2pt/3pt) to lock down that NPOY award. With 95+ in per/bh/p, I'm pretty confident he will get drafted in the first round, if he gets that NPOY.

Im hesitant to up his distro too much because the rest of the team is really good too. Also Ive never had a player this good and have no idea what Im doing with him.

Undoubtedly Kevin Capp for me. Mostly, it had to do with how much he improved throughout his career:
