Providing the low end one is adequate, for example talking SS.

100 glove everyday

Not me.  Definitely range.  You can't make an error on a ball you don't get to.

Absolutely without a doubt the glove. Think of it like this...if a 2B has a range of 90 and a glove of 70, then there a lot of ground balls he will be able to get to, but it also makes it more likely he will make an error. I'd rather my 2B have a range of 70 and glove of 90. That way, for the balls he does get to, there's a very high chance the out will get recorded. I am by no means an expert, but in my limited experience with HDB so far (1 full season and about 135 games into the 2nd), I have found range to be overrated.

Absolutely Range.  The number of + plays are tied very directly to Range.  80 isn't an ungodly terrible glove at SS.  100 Range is off the charts.  He'll get to everything.

Actually, I think I need to switch my answer to range. For some reason I was thinking the player in question was a 2B instead of a SS. Not sure why my answer would differ, but for a SS, I would take the 100-80 guy over the 80-100 guy. If it was a 2B with those exact ratings, I'd take the glove. I can't explain it.

I have this guy, played about one year since being an IFA, has a good chance to get to 100 range.  Hopefully he pans out for defensive purposes.
Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Francisco Contreras

26 + plays in one season...but also 23 errors.

I'll take the range.  20 errors in 134 games isn't ungodly high for even a great all-around SS (it's not good, but I've seen worse from SS's that are above 85 in both glove and arm accuracy... and some of your guy's errors are probably coming due to 84 arm accuracy).  24 + plays is excellent.

A real life ML player I can compare is Elvis Andrus. He made 25 errors last season, but anyone who watches him knows that he is anything but a bad defensive shortstop. He has exceptional range and has made so many outstanding defensive plays. But then he will also occasionally have a brain fart and screw up a fairly routine play. The good outweighs the bad.

Ranger,  Your guy is pretty good.

This is my guy JimDarwin .  He's won two consecutive GG's in Capra.

In his first fulltime season he had 744 chances, 24 plus plays, 21 errors, a .973% and 5.42 Range.  That = GG.
In  his next season..............he had 732 chances, 24 plus plays, 21 errors, a .972% and 5.12 Range.  That = GG.

He's had one minus play in 1937 career chances.  Current #'s are 91-84-94-87

Your guy has 645 chances right now,  He'll end up with a few more + plays than my guy, a few more errors, His .970% and 5.25 Range are just about what my guy does.  He's close to a GG, I'll bet.

So ballpark probably doesn't matter much for SS, but what about CF?  I play in AT&T in San Fran which has an expansive outfield. You'd definitely want the range there. However, if you play in a bandbox park, you'd take the glove.  Right?

Park is irrelevant for any position as far as i know, doesn't make any difference in that case.

We've had some discussion over the years in jackie robinson about this;  Legendary 2B  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Don Li   has some pretty amazing stats.  I tried Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Rob Payton at 2B .  I say "who cares if you can get to the ball, you still need to catch it."  I understand range is a huge part of +/- plays , but if youre going to use a lousy glove at a position, you should rack up errors too. Payton at 2b had an error every 9.1 games, Li every 8.3   which is a lot closer than I would have expected.

I have a little formula I use to attempt to figure out what's better.   It's pretty simple but it gives me a rough idea.

OF:  PO+assists+plus plays-errors-negative plays/9
IF:  Assists+plus plays-errors-negative plays/9

I removed PO in the IF because that's usually just someone throwing you the ball.   That formula is what's led me to believe that a rock with range could play RF without a problem.

I prefer range in CF, glove at 2B.  A play a 2B doesn't make is a single; a play a CF doesn't make can be any kind of hit.
