Eliminating old contracts Topic

Why can't a new owner do something to eliminate the bad decisions of previous owner when taking over a franchise?

I'm not advocating that new owners start with a blank slate.  But a previous owner, knowing he won't be playing the game past the upcoming season, might sign ludicrous long term contracts hoping it pays off in the short term.  Why should a new owner have to pay for that decision?  Why not institute a onetime amnesty, so a new owner can cut one or two contracts from the budget entirely?  It would only be one or two out a roster of 40+, and it would even out the game for all players a little.  When you're stuck with longterm monkey-on-your-back contracts, you can't even hire scouts and coaches to improve your team, which means you fall further behind.

Aliases.   Sign the bad deal, quit, sign up with another username, erase your mistakes.

If you don't like the contracts on a team you're about to take, don't take the team.  Lots of worlds are looking for owners.

I think it's fairly realistic though-- bad contracts happen all the time IRL. Someone always has to clean up someone else's mess.

It's a dynasty game. Building a team out of whatever you start with is supposed to be the point and the fun of the game. It's not about immediate satisfaction.

I agree with him to an extent.. You cant make a real life comparison because you're comparing $25 to walk away from a ruined team to a real life owner walking away from a multi-+ million dollar team..   It would be nice if there was some sort of amnesty allowed in private leagues.

You can't see the budget on the team you're about to take AND you aren't warned about it when you're a new user AND it's a game. It's not realistic for Huntington, WV to support a major league team, so why not take the non realism one step farther?

I realize this is hard for newer owners, but if you are interested in taking a team, you can dig in deep enough to know about bad contracts and any other "surprises" (of which there are really very few).  It just takes time.  About the only thing I would change for a new owner is to allow them the option of a budget baseline from the previous budget or from the standard new players' starting budget.

All teams start with the same budget. And you can see all the history, and contracts related to a team before you take it over. And, believe it or not some of the worst contracts that owners inherit are in season 1 of new worlds.

Your best bet is is take on teams that have been left behind by long-term successful owners in worlds with good reputations.  It's very unlikely that a good owner will have left behind a huge mess for the next owner to take on.

Do you have to be warned?    When I walk in the woods I don't see any "Beware of snakes" signs.   But I know they could be there.   So, when you walk into a new game, do you need some sort of warning other than "This is new to you.   Be warned"?

I'm not saying this for me necessarily.  I'm in here for at least 10 more seasons after my initial season, although I do have some real lemons on long term contracts.  However, if someone didn't commit to that many seasons and just wanted to try the game out, knowing you can't hire scouts and coaches to improve your team for 2-3 more seasons might turn people off to sticking around.  Because teams don't all start with the same budget, they all start with the same amount of money; different things entirely.

But I didn't realize season 1 teams started with contracts.  Anyway, just a thought for making the game more attractive to the casual player.

I didn't say this for me either "Aliases.   Sign the bad deal, quit, sign up with another username, erase your mistakes" but it would be open season on LT contract abuse in public worlds.    Eliminating contracts just doesn't work.

Not saying I love either of these deals but they are legit BL players and will be when their contracts expire:
Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Victor Acevedo
Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: B.C. Mesa

It could be a lot worse.
