Do I have a legitimate gripe (re: Jobs) Topic

I'm 7 seasons into a rebuild at Marquette in Phelan. Just had our best season, made the Sweet 16. I want to move to a BCS school because that's where all the money is, but I don't want to try to tackle another BCS bottom feeder rebuild with a B prestige school - I'm 15 seasons into that in Tark at Bama and I am not able to make any progress there. Maybe I just suck at BCS D I.

My point is that I was interested in the openings at Florida and Wisconsin. I was a "Keep Looking" at Florida (agent said I wouldn't gain much and probably wasn't qualified) and a "Not Qualified" for Wisconsin. I understand the new system looks at 10 seasons or whatnot (not sure I agree with that either, but that's a sub thread of this topic I suppose). I applied for Florida and got the out of hand rejection within about 3 hours. Didn't bother to apply to Wisconsin. Some of the kind folks in the SEC in Phelan seem to think my resume ought to have been good enough for consideration at least, and I tend to agree. What does the larger community think?

BCS conferences are about 90% full. The fact that a certain BCS school, that you want, didn't give you the job doesn't bother me.

Ok in Phelan we're trying to build the A-10 but guys from PSU and Mizzou can't qualify for D+ schools like Umass and Rhode Island when their prestiges are C+ and C and they have good reps, long tenures, and success at the mid-major level that doesn't make sense, and something is seriously wrong if BCS's can't leave for high-majors.

Its pretty marginal.  I got the job at Florida after 7 straight NT berths and an Elite 8 appearance....those A prestige teams should be hiring really successful coaches, and someone will want them.

I 'm sure others will want the jobs too, and I suppose I'd have no issue losing out to a more qualified coach. I also know this is far from the only thread regarding jobs. In Tark we have 3 SEC openings because no one who wanted the jobs could qualify. I do believe the recent changes were bad for the jobs process overall. I also recognize I haven't been at Marquette for 30 years yet or anything... I would have thought that the resume was good enough for consideration against other coaches though rather than outright rejection, but I can accept it if I am in a clear minority...

I was in the same position last year in phelan. This year it calls those jobs a step backwards. One more nt run and you got them easy.

What are the prestiges of UF and Wisconsin?  If those programs are really solid (A- or better), then it  may take a couple of seasons of really solid success given their high baselines.  If you make the S16 next season, I'm pretty sure some nice doors will open for you.

I was going to ask the same thing as jdno.

I wouldn't really look at your resume and think that it should qualify for A baseline teams. Aside from just the naked facts on the resume, it bothered me even less when I dug into and saw that you really weren't playing/beating anyone at all (monster upset of St. John's notwithstanding).

Florida is a B I woulda thought he could get that

I agree on the schedule, but I guess I don't know if that aspect is considered by the system or just how we justify it as humans examining it. I was going to post a thread before jobs asking if people thought I'd be qualified, but decided to just wait. When I got rejected so quickly and based on the (probably also biased since they want a coach rather than a sim at Florida) comments of a couple of the SEC guys decided to solicit opinions. I return 5 seniors from this squad, and play a couple more decent teams and the goal is another S16, so hopefully a good job will be open next season...

Florida has been simai for 4 seasons now and is currently a B.

With your team you'll make a run next year. No question b jobs will be open for you

I have always thought that it makes no sense to deny human coaches out of hand for these good schools.  Almost any human coach who has been coaching at 1A in a world for 6-8 seasons is better than a SIMAI coach for a team.

Make the minimum requirements for these teams much lower and let a bunch of human coaches apply, then pick the most qualified.

It is ridiculous that we have to let a team get 4 full years of crappy SIM recruited players before we let a human take over the team.

The system doesn't take that into account. It only has the ability to look at the raw data. I was more commenting on what passed the smell test for me personally with that part, and sort of that if it was close, that would make me come down on the "no" side of things.

If you're talking about a good BCS program, they'll always get taken. Sometimes right away, sometimes it does take a few seasons (four seasons for Florida is extremely long).

But I think lowering standards for good BCS schools is a mistake. It should really mean something and take a serious effort to get a job like that.

If you're talking about a non-BCS program that's been elevated by a human coach who leaves, then yes, I would agree with you there. Those programs can often go dormant for very long times, and the qualifications for them should be made easier (i.e. less dependent on their prestige at that moment and more dependent on baseline).
