ok. callahan - a one year rental, lowe - useful enough - and brooks - good riddance; are graduating. still in building mode, i think what i want is two guards and a big. for flex is there anything specific it would be best to look for? this isn't really a question about my specific roster(although i welcome helpful comments there is someone sees something I really need to correct) but more about generally what to look for for flex. As an example in a guard in flex what order of preference would you put bh, passing and per in?

also if i am going to stay where i am for a long time will one broken promise to one senior(callahan) hurt me terribly the next year? how serious is the effect for next year?

Here's a little hint, your promise to Callahan won't hurt you one bit if you don't fulfill it.  Why?  Because he graduates and won't be around to complain anyway.  It's a cheesy loophole to use on senior transfers to help during recruiting, but it means absolutely nothing, nada, zero, zilch if you bench him for the remainder of the year.  I can't count on two hands and one foot how many times I've used that trick and have never suffered any kind of repercussion, ever.  Bench him and give some time to your youngsters, especially if you really do plan on being there for an extended stay.

One other small thing, zone or not, you still need to focus on defense during recruiting.  You may be able to get away with occasionally hiding a bad defender but defense still matters, even in D3 and even running a zone.

yah. callahan was just a one year placeholder with no future. both replacement guards mt first concentration was going to be ath and def. he was there to be just a touch better than a walkon and to preserve my carryover cash. but the loyalty hit doesn't hurt? or reputation or whatever it is?

its a small reputation hit. Might keep you from being eligible for some jobs. Will have just about a negligible effect on recruiting.

well. not planning on going anywhere anyway. this might get some we for a returning guy and make the team better at the same time so i don't see the downside then ...

On a senior transfer?  I'm not sure this is accurate.  Once again, he's gone after the season, he can't transfer, his eligibility is used up.  As I said, I've broken promises to senior transfers several times in the past and never saw any hit to my Rep.  Must be a new fix Seble put in recently.

if you never saw a hit then I guess it might not. I always thought that if you broke a promise you got the hit, regardless,  but maybe the system doesn't recognize the broken promise without the year of eligibility remaining, idk? Only did this one time, didn't think to look at my rep... if so, its prbably a bug (I think the intent is to inflict the rep hit if the promise is broken)

next q. does the minute promise only care about the whole season average? say you promise 20, they average 25 halfway through, and 15 the rest of the way ending up at 20 for the year are they going to bug about the 13 games averaging 15? in other words could you bank minutes early and skimp on them later?

Yes, you can bank minutes early and skimp later.

i was going to go for a pure ath/def/bh guard, a shooting/per scoring guard and a pure big with some lp to compliment walker

imo, ath/spd/def guard is all you need for d3. If he has per, even better, but it's not necessary to succeed at this level.

As to your first question of how you would value bh/p/per for flex, it's relative to your team. If you need a pure passing pg (you don't have one), you would value bh/p more. If you need a 3pt threat, you would value per more. In d3 it's about recruiting for need more than recruiting for what is optimal.

is several with a sixty per good enough? i know i've been for a while, but given my trouble with consistency i must be doing something wrong. my defence should be better this coming year just by subtracting brooks and callahan and replacing them with something else.

To be honest, I treat 30 and 60 as the same thing when it comes to per. Of course there are benefits to shooting efficiency with 60 as opposed to 30, but you don't quite see consistently effective 3pt shooting until 70+.

there is NO HIT from breaking promises. there is ONLY a hit from a player transferring as a result of broken promises.

like emy, i have used the loophole a hundred times. in fact, i never sign a transfer without promising them a start and 30 minutes. there is just NO reason not to... unless of course, this is a senior with significant room for improvement, who you actually plan to use (both of which are unlikely, and together, its like finding a flying pig). and still then, its just a small work ethic hit, which is going to be a small factor anyway. i guess the other exception is if you plan to redshirt this guy.

so ill rephrase. 99 times out of a hundred, if not more, there is absolutely no reason not to promise a start and 30 minutes, even if you plan (like i do with 90% of the transfers i sign) never to play the poor bastard at all.
