Many variables play into recruiting but here is a scenario:

Division 1:
Team A:  A+ prestige, 380 miles away.  
Team B:  B- prestige, 100 miles away.  

How much more does team B need to put in to win the battle?  Of course battles and number of recruits play a HUGE role but what is the consenses?   Thanks!

You'd have to spend close to 2.5 times as much in terms of effort, which at those distances is still more than a 75% additional spending on your part in terms of cash.

assuming both schools spend their money correctly, equal spending results in basically a wash between the schools. if you think you can put more money into the recruit, no matter which school you are, i'd go for it.

note: this is assuming a middle of the road A+ and B-. A+ prestige does not seem to be capped, although nobody knows for sure. if that A+ is like, kentucky coming off a championship, they could have significantly higher than an average a+ prestige, and thus, a decent advantage in the battle. always got to be careful when A+ schools are involved, for that reason (whether you are in a battle, trying to calculate prestige/HV:CV based on a battle, anything really).

even if you use higher prestige figures, commonly accepted value by many coach, you might estimate the a+ school has approximately a 40-50% advantage. but i really think its about even. anyway, that gives you roughly an upper bound, if you are trying to play it safe.

eh, not THAT far off. i just tend to make it a priority to be able to nail these things down fairly precisely :)

Great insights!  Thanks guys.  I do need a little clarity though.  What exactly do you mean by this: (Oh, by the way I am speaking on behalf of team B)

From a purely money standpoint I think I can put more money into the recruit.  He has already been recruiting several players (which cost him cash) and I am holding all my cash for one big player.  But with the prestige stuff in there I don't know if my 100k (just throwing numbers out there) will win me the recruit over his 100k.  (Numbers are hypothetical. )  

Are you saying gillspie that you think my 100k will match and beat his 100k?  Even with the big difference in prestige?  (assuming I spend my cash correct and use all HV since I am at 100 miles)

I think that team B will lose given equal spending.  I am not sure though.  I would want to be able to spend more as the B- school, but you have a shot with equal.

That's really interesting, I always thought it was the same as FT shooting in that a certain letter grade corresponds to a % between1-100. So the way I was thinking that the highest prestige number for a team would cap at 100. So you're saying that this number could go over 100? Also I'm assuming this would apply to d2/d3 as well as d1?

assuming each team spends most efficiently and that the prestiges are average (like cbg was saying A+ can be tough) and the difference is 5 partial letter grades I'd guesstimate that team B needs to outspend team A by 15% or so.

Looks like I need to pull him down.... (I am a back-up option for now) I didn't realize that was still an issue at high D1.  So I guess I pull him down (as a B- school) with scouting reports and then go from there?  Anyone else seen this?

it used to be uncapped in d2/d3, before my time. coaches have told stories year ago about teams who did really well going from A+ to D-, presumably being D- a prestige grade higher. i don't know if d1 was capped, on one hand you'd think they all got capped together, but it seems from battles that A+ can go higher. i know some other coaches have similar beliefs, i think lostmyth suggested it wasnt capped in his veteran faq too.

i was suggesting if you go all HV and he all CV, the team who spends more will win (generally speaking: i.e. considering credit, favorite schools, home/away preferences etc considered to be non factors).

basically what i am saying is with you going all HV, the distance advantage is very close to equal to his prestige advantage. but like i said - if his A+ is a strong one - you will be behind. so its better if you can expect to outspend by a moderate amount (like 25% or something).
