Low prospect budget with multiple draft picks Topic

I have the first overall pick and 5 supp picks. Problem is that I signed a 99 rated INTL FA and have very little prospect money left. I can move some players to make room but my league is pretty uptight about cash deals so it will be tight to sign all of them. So I'm considering drafting someone who won't sign and using that pick next season instead. Has anyone tried this approach? What type of guy should I take? "Probably won't sign..."?

Thx in advance.

Yes,  "Probably won't sign" with mommy as his agent.    But you still have to offer initial demands and leave it there until it's rejected.  You might not have time to do that with all of them.

Gotcha.  My understanding is only the 1st round picks are awarded the following year and not supplemental.  Is this correct?

Slight concern though.  The first guy I found that is using his mother and "Probably won't sign..." is ranked 30 overall.  What are the chances he suddenly feels better about playing if I offer him a $4mm signing bonus instead of $900k?

You can get comp for unsigned first, second or third round picks.  But not for supplemental round picks.

Tough decision here.  I'm ok punting to next season but my budget is limited so if the guy comes back asking for $8mm instead of $4mm, I'm kind of screwed.

No, you only have to offer him his initial demand.   Then you get your comp pick if he raises it.

Thanks Mike but if he is taken #1 instead of #30, what are the chances his first demand is too high for me to offer?

A "may" sign guy drafted at #4 in one of my worlds this year had initial demands of 6.5 million dollars.  I believe the "probably won't" guys typically have even higher initial demands.

I think #1 always has an initial demand of 4k.

I stand corrected.

Yeah, 4 million is slot for #1 - guys who aren't willling to sign for slot typically have higher initial demands as well.

Agreed on the $4mm for slot guys as I checked the draft history in a couple of worlds.  There are some #1 picks though that have gone for much higher, $5 to $7mm so my guess is these are the mama's boys or undecided.

Same thing in our draft this season.  The #1 signed for 4 mill.  There was a "probably won't" SS who I had ranked at #3 overall; he demanded $7.5 mill.

If left with the two options of, drafting a mommy agent player and hoping he wont sign, vs drafting a guy who will sign for slot but probably deserved to be drafted 3rd or 4th. I would chose the will sign for slot guy considering you already have the big IFA, and your pick turns into a 2 next year anyways.
