I have two young guys on my Campbell squad that I think have the potential to develop really well. Bobby Pak is redshirted this season, so he will be a freshman eligibility-wise next season, while James Dolloff is a true freshman, who played some this season (especially in the last half of it) and looks to be a contributor next season. Here are their profiles

My thinking on Pak (who is still blue in Speed, Defense, and Low Post, and still has some upside in Athleticism as well) is that he would be my starting PF. His low BH and Passing worry me some, but I don't know how much that even really matters at PF.

With Dolloff, he has no blue ratings left, but DOES still have SOME upside in Rebounding, Defense, BH, and Durability. I was thinking he would be my starting SF, where his lower scoring attributes (Perimeter and LP) are less of a downside.

BTW, my other freshman this season was Victor Shields, who redshirted last season. His only reds are on Speed, Low Post, and Stamina, so even though he doesn't have any blue ratings, I still like his upside. Here's his profile:

I'm thinking he'll be my backup at SG (behind Knight, who should have a good SR year) next season, even though his PER rating is low for a SG at 65.

None of these guys should be playing the PF spot. Rebounding is now position v position, meaning whoever you put at the 4, his rebounding ability will be matched up against the other team's 4 one on one for rebounds. Simai will use a natural PF at the 4, and these guys will generally have pretty good rebounds. Smart human coaches will put their best rebounder at the 4 against you and just flat out dominate all three of these guys, cleaning up the boards.

Your best bet is to recruit a real big 90 rebound off the bat (like a 50ath/90reb kind of player ) or a 70ath/60 reb guy that has high potential in either ath or reb.

And when you recruit players, project them out to what they will look like once they are maxed out. Then ask yourself, will this guy be a good pg,sg,sf,pf, or c. If they answer is no to all 5 of these positions, don't recruit them.

How do you plan to use Pak/Dolloff? They are not made for any of the 5 positions.

Shields can be a decent sf.

My thinking on Pak was that he's going to be a MONSTER on offense before he's through, what with his (soon-to-be) 90+ ATH and (ultimately-will-be) 80 or 90+ LP, to go along with the fact that he's going to be REALLY fast (for a PF) and a great defender (already 71 on DEF, and he's still blue there). Given that, I felt that focusing on REB with my C position (I've got my eye on some great rebounding recruits there) might ameliorate somewhat the rebounding I'll be giving up with Pak at the PF.

I plan to use Dolloff at SF, and Shields as my primary backup at the 2 and the 3.

I recruited both Pak and Dolloff because I felt like their athleticism/defense made up for their deficiency in other areas, particularly since I felt ATH was a fairly big weakness of most of my teams.

You can't punt rebounding at PF.    I think Pak would be an okay SF but that BH may cause some serious turnovers.   He might be a good guy to play as a defender with a low offensive distro.

Pak's going to be 90+ in LP, with 90+ ATH. You don't think he can be a high distro guy?

Against other low end d1 teams?  Yeah.
Against teams in the NT?  No.   His speed and BH will make him a TO machine.

Right now, I'm just trying to get Campbell to where we're a regular PARTICIPANT in the NT. I'll worry about competing well in it once the first goal happens.

That's a bad plan, you don't recruit to first get in the dance and then recruit to win once you're consistently getting there.  You're adding an unnecessary step and wasting seasons in the process.  Look at the how the better coaches in DI have put together their teams and those are the type players you're looking for.  You seem to be focusing on players with one solid attribute instead of focusing on all the attributes that contribute to a player excelling at his position.

At a low-major, you simply can not recruit the types of guys it takes to go deep in the NT--at least not until the prestige levels have sufficiently improved. And to improve prestige, you have to build a team that can consistently make the NT. Once THAT is done, and prestige levels are adequate, THEN the recruits I'll be able to legitimately have a shot at landing will improve, and I'll be able to change my recruiting focus somewhat. Campbell, with our current prestige, is simply not going to be able to recruit the types of guys that are going to be the perfectly well-rounded players you guys seem to be advocating I go after.

Do you want opinions or do you just want to archive a running history or Campbell basketball?

What do you think Pak does against Smith this season?  What about when Pak is a Sr.?  Smith will be at 100 DEF by then.  Do you think Pak drops 20 on him?  Do you think Smith pulls down 75% of the rebounds?
